Blackhawks Victory Parade Friday Morning, 10:30am

The City of Chicago will have a ticker tape parade Friday morning for the Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks.

The parade will begin about 10:30 a.m. from North Wacker Drive and West Washington Street, according to a release from the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication.

A rally will take place about 11:30 a.m. at East Wacker Drive and North Michigan Avenue, according to the release. WLS-AM 890

Blackhawks Win First Stanley Cup In My Lifetime, Since 1961

Finally. Now if the Cubs win the World Series, Obama gets impeached and Daley resigns, the world will be 'right' once again as America reigns as the beacon of freedom and liberty as it once was.

The game ended strangely as the Hawks scored in Overtime in a goal which didn't set off the lights and took all the spontenaity out of the celebration because no one was sure if it was a goal or not.

The replays showed an obvious goal and the crowd was stunned.

It was indeed 'deemed' a goal, and the Hawks have won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 51 years.

My tribute to the Hawks after a lifetime as a fan who sat through some miserable shit at the old Stadium. We watched games standing on the Hot Dog Concession Carts in the second balcony back in high school on Sunday nights! We were die hard's.

Whew, finally, I've almost seen everything now.

Now, if only the Cubs win the world series and Obama's impeached I could die having had seen everything. 22 Year Old Jonathon Toewes was named the MVP of the series and he's about to become the 'toast of the town' here in Chicago.

Already a legend on par with Makita and Hull, (especially after this plus winning the Smythe Conn Trophy(MVP) ) who were the last men to bring home the Cup to Chicago, again, back in 1961, 3 years before I was born.

Strangely enough I bought my nieces and nephews Hawks jerseys this past Christmas and one of them Jonathon Toewes!


I'm sure they're freaking out tonight as we all went to game 2 on Memorial Day together. I actually live in the Suburbs and fireworks are going off outside out here, I kid you not.. as we watch the game here and my neighbors watch me post this.


We've suffered all our lives as far as being a Chicago sports fan goes, I was even once a season ticket holder for 10 years, when they sucked through the 90's mostly.


This is a huge night for we lifetime Hawks fans, the Super Bowl of '85 all over again. So a big congratulations to the Blackhawks, and now watch Obama somehow glom onto this for some publicity as if he's a Hawks fan.

The only black fan in the city! lol Just kidding, there's a few I'm sure, not many though.

JUST IN CASE HE DOES try to take some credit for this....

BlackHawks Win Game 4, Sweep to 2010 NHL Finals Berth

I've been following these Hawk's all season

Truth is this team has been really exciting to watch and it takes a great team to get this savvy fan to even pay attention after 45 years of failure minus 1961's Championship 3 years before I was born and an appearance in 1992 both under original NHL owner, Dollar Bill Wirtz, who hockey fans know pinched the quarters so tight around here the eagles would scream.

He dies 3 years ago, his son Rocky puts this team together and viola, the Super Bowl of Hockey as the Hawks are there, as are the fans and I'm gonna make enough to pay my mortgage for a couple years selling my tickets.!!

I'm happier than Barney Frank at the local DC butt pirate bathhouse on Two Fer Tuesday's!!

I won't unload all of them, I'll keep the game 4 and 7's which the latter they hopefully won't need ....but if they do I wouldn't miss that one for the world. After all, I've been waiting my whole life for this shit.

Blackhawks 5-3 Win Takes Series 4 Games 2 over Nashville

On to the Vancouver Canucks for the next series who they split the season meetings with at 2 games a piece after a crazy game that featured 5 quick goals in the first period alone, as the teams eventually settled down as the Hawks head back to Chicago winners.

Moving on to the next round after a lean decade aside from last year's trip to the conference finals, losing to Detroit nearly being swept as you can see here from this little mini record from their website.

Blackhawks At Home Force and Win Game 5 Sudden Death at the Madhouse on Madison 5-4 / Lead series 3-2

Great game we're watching this afternoon myself and a couple neighbors,  and at first it looked as if the Hawks were gonna run away with it jumping to a 3-1 lead at one point of the game, but then dropped a few goals to the Predators giving them a 1 goal lead.

Then with just a few seconds to go tying it up by notching a "Hail Mary" which was  scored by  Chicago star Patrick Kane, locking the game at 4, and sending it into hockey's version of "Sudden death"

 

Which starts with a 4th period added on the regulation 3, translating into 60 minutes of ice time "plus",  if no  one scores, which takes the energy out of even the best conditioned athletes, as anyone who's skated in any kind of hockey game can attest. Brutal

If neither team scores during this period, the teams use a penalty-shot shootout, consisting of three players in the NHL or five players in the minor leagues (AHL, ECHL, UHL, Central), to determine the winner. In the NHL, if no team wins this shootout, a 1-by-1, sudden-death shootout ensues. No player may shoot twice until every non-goaltender on the bench has taken a shot.

During championship playoffs, however, all games are played to a conclusion resulting in a victory for one team and a loss for the other. These are true sudden-death games, which have gone on into as many as six additional full 20-minute periods with five players, instead of the five-minute period with four players.

 Anyhow at the quarter way mark through the Sudden Death the Hawk's Marion Hossa, one of their top stars, put the Predators to death and took game 5 at home, sending the Hawks fans into pandemonium as all of a sudden this team is looking like it did throughout the year's regular season.

And that's good news for them and bad news for the teams in their way, as they finished the season at the top of their Western Conference division, even exiling the perrennial Hawk slayers up in Detroit as you can see here in this season's closing standings.

That leaves the Hawks up in the series 3 games to 2 and could let them wrap up  the series, moving to the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs if they can win on Monday at 7pm in Nashville, which isn't the end as they'll head back for a supergame seven where tickets from here on out are gonna be hard to come by and  1/3 of the national debt for a family  of four. 

Tonight 2 primo "glass" tickets being sold legally at Ticketmaster online for a game 7 at home if they lose Monsay were going for $8000 for the pair.  Don't believe me? Look for yourself.

That's brutal considering there's 2 more rounds to go. Season ticket holders can pay their kid's college tuition if the Hawks go all the way to the Stanley Cup.

Because they know darn well as do many here that the REAL Hawks fans "to the core" will sell their girlfriends or wives if still  have them to go to that series.  That is unless they go with him if there's room in the trunk (*lol) with the buddies up in the front seats, and give up that "Hawaiian vacation"  to pay for it all  "at those prices"  which they were planning, because it may never happen again in this lifetime in this city.

Particularly since Obama's sinking the country faster than the Titanic sunk.  Which by the way  reminds me now that they're looking like they'll be hopefully advancing, Obama was never A HAWKS FAN,  and as a matter of fact "despises"  the all white NHL hockey league.

So should you hear him jump on the bandwagon in the coming weeks,  come back here and I'll set everyone straight on that bullshit.

Cubs beat Milwaukee Brewers 9-5 In Wrigley Opener (Under New Ownership)

Cubs first home opener under the ownership of the Ricketts family and I must say after many a moons of opening day drubbings, the Cubs were on the winning end of things today in an interleague home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, so this could be sign of "great things to come" this year for once on the Northside this millennium.

(.... yeah right..... and Obama will pay the 1.5 million dollar bill for his Chicago election night fiasco some day before he's impeached.)

The Cubs came in with a National League worst .188 average with runners on base, wasting some good starting pitching and forcing the young bullpen to come through in pressure situations. They didn't, leaving the Cubs 2-4 on the opening trip.

Obama's Opening Pitch Way High, like HE was through his young days

Like everything in this country, the crowd at the National's Opener today was split about right down the middle, unlike Obama's wacky curve ball of which the only "curving" it did was sail high and beyond outside of the plate for a right handed batter

A throw that would have caused a left handed batter to hit the dirt, although it seems he worked on the embarrassing "girly man" form from last year, which I'll give him a little credit for. We don't need a president in name only who isn't gay but acts like he is.

Chicago Blackhawks - News: "The Chicago Blackhawks have gone Hollywood.

Literally.

The Central Division leaders have been in the spotlight since arriving in Los Angeles on Monday. Not long after landing on the West Coast, captain Jonathan Toews and alternate captain Patrick Kane headed to ESPN's L.A. studio, where they taped a segment for SportsCenter and also announced the top 10 plays of the day.

Twenty-four hours later, Kane, Toews and the rest of the Blackhawks found themselves at NBC Studios, where they attended a taping of 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.'

'The whole team sat in the crowd,' Kane told NHL.com from Los Angeles on Tuesday night. 'Myself, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook -- all the medal winners -- had a little part in the show. It was pretty cool.'

Kane received a little extra attention, considering he was the lone American among the Olympians on Chicago's roster. He appreciated the feedback he received from the audience.

'He introduced me and I got a pretty big cheer,' said Kane, who hails from Buffalo, N.Y. 'We got a big cheer when he introduced the team. It was pretty cool to see.'"  more

Blackhawks Fans' National Anthem Celebrations Disrespectful Sports Tradition? - Video

Unpatriotic to cheer during national anthem?"

I am a Chicagoan obviously, and a patriot even before that. This pre game ritual  has been going on at Chicago Blackhawks games since 1991, a tradition that started during the first gulf war when we fans in attendance that day wanted to send a message to the soldiers and the world that we were all thinking about them and behind them 2000 %, and I know because I was freaking there that day and it was unlike any other sports moment I've personally experienced, that's for sure..

This is a video of that day and national anthem with Blackhhawks singer Wayne Messmer doing the honors as he always did, right up until he was robbed and shot outside the old Chicago stadium right in the throat of all places. He survived the ordeal, and his singing has thankfully for us mostly returned to normal, although he no longer does the anthem at the games.

I'm sure you've seen or heard this before but if not take look please before continuing.

The tradition has continued through today, and while some out there don't understand the background of it and the celebration of America that takes place before each home game ever since, most seem to get it, that this is patriotic gesture and nothing more. No disrespect is meant,  and I personally have no problem with it , but as usual,  some do and t hey talked about it on FOX news this morning

Julius Peppers is a Chicago Bear | ProFootballTalk.com

Chicago Bears make a big defensive upgrade which should help them almost make the playoffs next year, since they weren't even close this year. And sadly, as far as I can see, Lovie Smith is still the head coach, so, don't expect too many miracles for the 40 million their throwing this man's way.

While certainly a pretty good player, frankly most "casual" football fans probably couldn't even identify him off the football field other than by his size, along with his gold plated Porsche 911 or whatever the hell 4o million buys these days. (or in other words, about 4o million for what used to be known as an average "no name".

One good note is that I'm sure Obama's happier than "a pig in s**t" about this as much as Peppers, since that'll mean about 35 million for our freaking behemoth big government out of his 40 million paycheck... and that sure is a lot of Obama Care premiums, some free check ups and welfare checks for those loyal and brainwashed supporters!

That's why to most of the republican men that play in that league,  NFL, as it pertains to Obama, means "not for long".

Although the team hasn't formally announced it yet, ESPN reports that a six-year deal is done. Adam Schefter reported that the Bears are expected to pay Peppers $40 million in the first three years.

The Bears will be expecting big things from Peppers, who has 81 sacks in his NFL career, which began in 2002. That's the third-most in the NFL during that time, behind only Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney.

For the Bears (who also signed Brandon Manumaleuna and Chester Taylor on a huge first day of free agency), it's a sign that they're serious about winning, and winning now. After the disaster that was the Bears' 2009 season, that's a sign the fans of Chicago needed to see."

BlackHawks Beat Red WIngs in Shootout 4 to 3, Lead The NHL with 72 Points

San Jose has 70 until their next game decision, leaving the Hawks leading the league for the afternoon at least! lol (standings before this afternoon's win)

This team is really going off the rails this year in a great way,  as they've really exploded on the scene leading the entire league for the first time since I can remember, actually going back to 1992 being the last time they appeared in the NHL finals, and aside from last year weren't even in the playoffs for seven years, that being in 2002...

So they've sucked for  a while,  but have come on strong since their founder, NHL oldtimer Dollar Bill Wirtz passed away in the last year, with his much more contemporary son taking the reigns and bringing the team into the new millennium, albeit nearly a decade too late!   A man who was so cheap he threw quarters around like manhole covers, and squeezed his nickels so tight the damn eagle would scream!

Hence the nickname "dollar Bill".

As a season ticket holder in the 80's,  we saw some great teams that were always getting beat by the powerhouse Edmonton Oilers of the day,  led by Hockey God Wayne Gretsky,  every time they (they Hawks) got close to Stanley and his Cup, so while decade was pretty good for fans like myself, it was also terribly frustrating.

Those Hawks teams had some greats of their own, with Chris Chelios,  Denis Savard, Al Secord, Daryl Sutter, Doug Wilson along with Bob Murray, and Tony O also known as Tony Esposito and others, and hockey fans know those names mean "old time kick ass hockey".

The 60's and 70's everyone into hockey and some who aren't knows these few guys; Stan Makita, Bobby Hull, Keith Magnason, Pit Martin and the list goes on and on.

On the contrary, this team is very young, and really great so far this year, as the game televised nationally today went through overtime with the Hawks finally securing the win in the 4th shootout round. What a great game for the country to see.

This should hopefully be a once in a lifetime year with these young men on the ice.

One Of My Favorite Cubs Of All Time, Andre Dawson, "The Hawk" elected to MLB Hall of Fame

Aside from Great pitcher Rick Sutcliffe and perennial All Star second baseman Ryne Sandberg, there's no other man responsible for the few successes the Cubs did have in the mid 1980's than Andre Dawson who came to the Cubs via free agency's infancy from the now defunct Montreal Expos.

His election to the baseball hall of fame today after 8 previous denials was a good selection for a great man and great player as well. The other two men eligible expected to make the cut, second baseman Sandy Alomar, who's entire family are former and even presently ball players (son Roberto, a catcher),  and Burt Blyleven, longtime Minnesota Twins pitcher, didn't make it this year, but will sometime down the road more likely than not. 

TribAlomar was followed by pitcher Jack Morris with 282 (52.3 percent). Cincinnati shortstop Barry Larkin was on 278 ballots (51.6 percent), followed by reliever Lee Smith at 255 (47.3 percent) and Edgar Martinez at 195 (36.2 percent).  (link below)

Dawson,  one of the players of older times with first class exemplary behavior year after after year,  was often grouped together with Superstars Michael Jordan and or Walter Payton as the "Windy City Big Men On Campus" during those times. An honor that continues even through today, despite Walter Payton's sad and terribly untimely death, as evidenced by this poster that many of we Chicagoan's had back in the day, and some still do...  Good local Trib piece here

Dawson received 420 of 539 votes in voting announced Wednesday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, 15 more than the 75 percent necessary to gain election. The eight-time All-Star, appearing on the ballot for the ninth time, had fallen 44 votes short last year.

Blyleven had 400 votes, up from 338 last year, and will likely get in because he has two more tries on the BBWAA ballot.

Alomar received 397 votes in his first appearance and was followed by Jack Morris with 282."

Buck Doesn't Stop At Top As Lovie Smith stays, but OC Ron Turner walks the plank for Bears

Not that offensive coordinator Ron Turner doesn't deserve to be fired after some really questionable play calling for a couple years now, but if head coach Lovie Smith had any semblance of class, he'd re negotiate his recently renegotiated contract downward as his portion of the blame for how the team has sucked so much since he rode the wave to the Super Bowl LOSS from all the work everyone did before he showed up.

The Bears offense wasn't even really their main problem,  with the offense ranked 12 and the defense 9 in the NFC they're not that far apart, but in my opinion it's their defense that needs the help more than anything, as their top players were injured all year long with their very best player out for the entire season, some who may never return as far as we know.

But that's Lovie's territory so gotta blame something else, like the offense. But like I said, Turner's play calling has always been goofy to say the least in the eyes of this lifetime fan at least, so he won't be missed to much by the fans.

Phillips said money wasn't a factor in retaining Smith, but his comments indicated both Smith and general manager Jerry Angelo will enter 2010 on the hot seat.

Yea right, and Obama was born in, well, wherever he was born. They're more afraid of firing him because he's black more than anything, I'll tell you that much.

However, as far as the money goes and contrary to what the quote above says, it has a lot to do with money as well, since the Bears owners, the McCaskey's, who are descendants of original football charter member Papa Bear Halas, squeeze nickels so tight they make the gosh darn eagles scream.

'Status quo was not an option,' Bears president and CEO Ted Phillips said in confirming the coaching staff shakeup that replaces 75% of the offensive staff.

Offensive coordinator Ron Turner and five other offense assistants were fired.

Smith, who has two years for a total of about $11 million left on his contract, will return for his seventh season but relinquish the defensive coordinator role he assumed in 2009. He said he will look outside the organization for both coordinator berths.

Bears & Lions Face Off At Noon In the NFL's 2010 "Toilet Bowl"..

 

Bears beat Lions to finish season on upbeat note - "DETROIT -- The Bears and Lions played as if they had nothing to lose Sunday. And, in fact, they didn't as the two sub-.500 teams slugged it out in the season finale at Ford Field.

In the end, the Bears prevailed 37-23 behind four Jay Cutler touchdown passes to wind up with a 7-9 record, while the woeful Lions finished 2-14 in spite of a valiant effort against their NFC North rival.

At the conclusion of a monumentally disappointing season that saw the Bears miss the playoffs for the third straight season, only the future of embattled head coach Lovie Smith remains in doubt."   continued

Pretty much what I said before the game  ; ) Not as dumb as I sound  :)  Woo Wee, they beat the shittiest team in the NFL, just a notch or two below  them by the way.

Many of we Chicagoan's, particularly sports fans,  know "suck" when we see it, and this young team really sucked for the most part, not winning but one game on the road all season.... that is except for the mistake on the Potomac some missed November 2008 after many emphatic warnings to the contrary. But that's a horse of another color for another time (like tomorrow morning).

I think most NFL fans would concur that these two teams, near the very bottom of the NFL heap right now, have a long way to go to become part of the NFL elite, most of whom will be mostly coasting today to save their best for the upcoming playoffs.  A maneuver I've always looked upon as "gipping" the fans, who tune in or even worse actually "go to the events"  expecting  pro teams to always field their best players, even the last weekend of the season.

For the Bears it'll be no different, as they haven't been fielding their best players all year because their best defensive players have spent most of the year injured starting from the first game. That's when star linebacker Brian Urlacher was knocked from the roster for the year added to by a litany of others along the way, decimating the team and leaving them left with what we'll see today.

And if they like their head coach Lovie Dovie Smith they'll win today against the hapless Detroit Lions, although it's hard seeing the CheapAssed McCaskeys, who own the Bears, eat 11 million dollars they mistakenly paid this man after their freak super bowl appearance a few years back by firing him now, although we can at least dream for a while until the team announces anything otherwise.

So for the Bears and their fans it may be "wait 'til the year after next year " for any remarkable improvement instead of the usual Chicago "wait til next year" cry at the end of most pro sports seasons in this town since the Jordan Bulls days and da' days of " Da' Coach" himself..

I'd send Smith walking but then I never would have extended his first contract in the first place. Then again I don't own the Bears nor do the millions of others who pay through the teeth to see this team or any others in the league play in person even though we've seen many college teams better than  these two midwestern mopes over the years.

So don't hope for any miracles because they're not on the way after QB Jay Cutler turned out to be chopped liver instead of the "veal cutlet" we were sold on. They have no money left having wrapped it all up in those two in the picture above, Smith and Cutler.

Bears will make changes, but not the kind fans want

Changes are coming to Halas Hall. It's a certainty after a season as wretched as this. How sweeping those changes will be remains to be seen. Ownership might decide to replace general manager Jerry Angelo based on his draft-day track record alone. Smith could be gone, too, along with all his assistants, which would be a popular move among Bears fans who have lost confidence in a general manager and a coach who have presided over a team that has defined mediocrity for three consecutive seasons since appearing in Super Bowl XLI."  continued

Bears not sure when they're flying to Baltimore - Noon Start Pushed to Sun 3 Central

This might be gift from above to save the Bears from another embarrassing ass whooping this weekend as they've been getting whooped all season like red headed Kenyan stepchildren.  This is the story at O'Scare Airport this morning...

 
So coupled with the Muslim terrorist checks everyone must unneccessarily go through thanks to unbridled PC gone mad since there's never been a non Muslim airline hijacking in aviation history we know darn well all that needs to be done is a little racial profiling and all the airport misery disappears.

But that's another rant for another day.

Bears not sure when they're flying to Baltimore

Chicago Breaking Sports: "BALTIMORE -- The Bears were planning to hold a meeting this morning in an effort to determine when the team will be able to travel here with a snowstorm pounding the Middle Atlantic states.

A club official said it is possible the team will not depart until Sunday morning. Whether or not that would affect the status of the 3:15 p.m. game Sunday remains to be seen. It is unknown if the game could be pushed to Monday where it would go up against the already scheduled 'Monday Night Football' game at nearby FedEx Field between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins.

'We are monitoring the situation,' a league spokesperson said.

The Bears' arrival isn't the only logistical matter. A blizzard warning has been issued, and WBAL-TV is forecasting 20 to 30 inches of snow by the time the storm ends late tonight or Sunday. The worst of it has yet to come. The record for a snowstorm in Baltimore is 28.2 inches from Feb. 15-18, 2003."

'Jordan vs. Russell charity game' hoax angers fans..(Gee... Ya Think?)

This is almost unbelievable as this guy Mark Cuban, who wanted to buy the Chicago Cubs until everyone figured out that, while a brilliant man, he's also a class "A" ass sometimes, got slammed WWF style through a table during this dumb scene..




Meanwhile other NBA owners are doing other dumb stuff in their world's.

Like staging fake games with old timers at their development league games,  including a fake "one on one" with Byron Russell and Michael Jordan, if you can believe that ****.

Utah Flash owner Brandt Anderson pulled off a WWE-like scripted hoax last night to the disappointment of 7,500 fans who believed that Michael Jordan and Bryon Russell, the former Utah Jazz forward, were about to play a one-on-one game during halftime of an NBA Development League game."  more

Hapless Bears "Misunderestimated" By Pathetic 1-11 St Louis Rams In 17-9 Win

Little Bushism blast from the past huh....lol...

Looks like the fans here and elsewhere at Soldier Field today...

Will have to wait another week at least to see Lovie Smith get "launched" for what will be a record-setting losing season for him and the Bears thanks today mostly to the play of this man, Devin Hester, who pulls in  the one touchdown that turned out to be the winning one here in this picture against the worst team in the league next to them practically...(not quite, but damn close)

After the game it was determined Hester injured his calf so it of course was a costly win as they all have been this year starting from game 1 when Brian Urlacher went down with a season crushing wrist injury.

And no one was happier with the win, and watching the "reformed" defensive back turned wide out and kick return sensation than this man, who's butt is in a sling each week the team takes the field here on out.  As today's timely win fortunately  kept him and "his Bears" from suffering their 5th straight loss today, which would have beaten Lovie's previous "worst stretches" of which he has three spanning four games, including the streak just broken with the win.

Bears find remedy in Rams, snap four-game skid

Chicago Breaking Sports: "The Bears needed a cure for what ailed them during a four-game losing streak, and they found it today by outlasting an even more dreadful opponent -- the St. Louis Rams.

The Bears used a one-yard TD run by Matt Forte, a three-yard scoring pass from Jay Cutler to Earl Bennett and a 27-yard Robbie Gould field goal to improve to 5-7 on the season with the 17-9 triumph at Soldier Field. The Rams fell to 1-11.

Forte rushed 24 times for 91 yards. Cutler completed 8-of-17 passes for 143 yards. The Rams' offense consisted of Steven Jackson rushing for 112 yards on 28 attempts."  read more
