Bob Probert was a big star with the Blackhawks and an original Red Wing when I was a season ticket holder about 15 years ago, as he and other perennial enforcer man Al Secord before him were my favorite players, although 'Probie', as he was called, had a terrible drinking problems, which dogged him almost every season throughout his career.
He even had a DUI while here playing in Chicago, but so have millions of others, including me right around that very same time frame, strangely enough. Those were MY rugged years as well.
Sadly some of that 'hard living' seems to have caught up with him Monday driving him to a fatal heart attack at my freaking age, only 45 years, and we fans mourn his untimely loss here, especially having just seen the team win the Stanley Cup, as he was a 'lean year' member.
They really 'sucked' in those days, but not because of him.
Mostly because of 'Dollar Bill" Wirtz, the late owner who's son only took 2 years to win 'the cup'.
Anyhow, I and my friends were fortunate enough to have watched him work many a drunken night at the 'Madhouse on Madison' and later, The United Center, or 'the house that Jordan built.'...I pray for his family, and may he rest in peace. :(
DETROIT – Retired hockey enforcer Bob Probert, as adept with his fists as with a stick in a 16-season career with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, died Monday after suffering chest pains while boating with his family. He was 45.
"Bob lost the fight of his life this afternoon," said Probert's father-in-law, Dan Parkinson, a police officer who performed CPR before Probert was rushed to Ontario's Windsor Regional Medical Center.
Probert was on a boat in Lake St. Clair with his wife, children and in-laws when he "developed severe chest pains" Monday, family friend Rich Rogow told a Monday evening news conference at the medical center.
"This is a tragedy for the family," Parkinson said. "We ask that you respect their privacy at this time."
Probert, who struggled to overcome drinking problems during his time in the NHL, played for the Red Wings in 1985-1994 and for the Blackhawks in 1995-2002.
"Bob was a part of our very first NHL Draft class that also included Steve Yzerman, Joe Kocur, Petr Klima and Stu Grimson," Red Wings owners Mike and Marian Ilitch said in a statement. "Bob was always there for his teammates and was one of the toughest men to ever play in the NHL.
"He also was one of the kindest, most colorful, and beloved players Detroit has ever known."
Blackhawks president John McDonough said the organziation's "thoughts and prayers are with the entire Probert family."
"Bob will always be a member of the Blackhawks family and his memory will live on through our fans," McDonough said in a statement.

There are city estimates from the Offices of Emergency Management that over 2 million people showed up for this parade turned 'massive block party', basically shutting down the loop today. I wish I would have went. It's like the Chicago parade scene in 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off', I kid you not....
I'm 1000% for law enforcement, but I could out run this cop with my hands tied behind my freaking back and I'm crippled !!
And for the very first time EVER I actually believe the crowd estimates, as I've been to every major Chicago event minus the 'Obama Puke fest' (he still hasn't reimbursed the city for) and I've never seen this many people, and not one incident of violence or trouble. Not a one.

From the local NBC 5 affiliate comes this from Thursday as the team took Lord Stanley's Cup out for a little "Happy Hour" with the fans as their "CUP" Runneth over with love from the team and just about anything as loaded as most of these good folks were last night!
A lot has changed in Chicago in the 49 years since the Stanley Cup visited the Windy City, so what better way to get reacquainted than with a good ol' fashioned bar crawl?
Portions of Happy Hour were at Tavern on Rush, when Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and about 10 other Blackhawks took the place by storm.
A crowd estimated to be in the hundreds gathered outside while the Hawks were packed in a roped-off area inside.

An awesome scene and sea of humanity I've never seen in this city...Unreal. Saying 300-400 thousand people who apparently all took off work today for this thing..It's on every single channel on local tv.
I sure would like to see this for our soldiers when they all return home eventually as well.
For those not in Chicago the parade consisted of about 15 double decker buses which contained each of their families, practically the entire organization and all the Legacy Hall of Famers who could make it had their own bus too.
2 million people gathered peacefully in the most violent city in the world, at least not for today thank the Lord for small miracles. And thank the Blackhawks meaning NO disrespect for the Lord. I'm sure this is what Jesus would be doing today anyhow were he with us. ;)
The City of Chicago will have a ticker tape parade Friday morning for the Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks.
The parade will begin about 10:30 a.m. from North Wacker Drive and West Washington Street, according to a release from the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication.
A rally will take place about 11:30 a.m. at East Wacker Drive and North Michigan Avenue, according to the release. WLS-AM 890

Finally. Now if the Cubs win the World Series, Obama gets impeached and Daley resigns, the world will be 'right' once again as America reigns as the beacon of freedom and liberty as it once was.
The game ended strangely as the Hawks scored in Overtime in a goal which didn't set off the lights and took all the spontenaity out of the celebration because no one was sure if it was a goal or not.
The replays showed an obvious goal and the crowd was stunned.

It was indeed 'deemed' a goal, and the Hawks have won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 51 years.
My tribute to the Hawks after a lifetime as a fan who sat through some miserable shit at the old Stadium. We watched games standing on the Hot Dog Concession Carts in the second balcony back in high school on Sunday nights! We were die hard's.
Whew, finally, I've almost seen everything now.
Now, if only the Cubs win the world series and Obama's impeached I could die having had seen everything. 22 Year Old Jonathon Toewes was named the MVP of the series and he's about to become the 'toast of the town' here in Chicago.
Already a legend on par with Makita and Hull, (especially after this plus winning the Smythe Conn Trophy(MVP) ) who were the last men to bring home the Cup to Chicago, again, back in 1961, 3 years before I was born.

Strangely enough I bought my nieces and nephews Hawks jerseys this past Christmas and one of them Jonathon Toewes!
I'm sure they're freaking out tonight as we all went to game 2 on Memorial Day together. I actually live in the Suburbs and fireworks are going off outside out here, I kid you not.. as we watch the game here and my neighbors watch me post this.
We've suffered all our lives as far as being a Chicago sports fan goes, I was even once a season ticket holder for 10 years, when they sucked through the 90's mostly.
This is a huge night for we lifetime Hawks fans, the Super Bowl of '85 all over again. So a big congratulations to the Blackhawks, and now watch Obama somehow glom onto this for some publicity as if he's a Hawks fan.

Willow Grove raised Jill Biden, a huge Flyers fan, who hangs a Danny Briere jersey on her door at home for good luck, wore a black Briere #48 t-shirt. The couple, and at least a dozen Secret Serviceagents, were in Super Box 13 at center ice

Three lapses led to goals in the opening period as the Flyers have stormed back after losing the first two games to knot the best-of-seven series 2-2 with Game 5 Sunday at the United Center.Mike Richards, Matt Carle, Claude Giroux, Ville Leino and Jeff Carter provided the offense and Michael Leighton earned the victory in goal as the Flyers did their job and won both games at home.
The Hawks rallied from a 4-1 deficit with two goals in the third but couldn't bail out goaltender Antti Niemi. Patrick Sharp scored in the first and Dave Bolland and Brian Campbell in the third for the Hawks.

100th consecutive sellout at he Hawks game which had 11 goals total, a very tense and yet enjoyable game for this Hawks fan watching this one at home.
In a brief synopsis, there were 5 quick goals already by the end of the first period, and at the end of 2 periods 10 goals had already been scored, leaving the Hawks with 5 and the Flyers with 5.
The Hawks came back to score the go ahead goal quickly in the 3rd midway through the period for good, giving them the final 6-5 win.
Game 2 is Monday night at 7 pm right back at the United Center, Memorial day, where the unparalleled 'Blackhawks National Anthem' will be heard round the world as a tribute to the soldiers past and present who gave and give their lives for our freedoms
Just like it was the day it started, when I myself was here below at the Chicago Stadium during Christmastime, at the 1991 NHL All Star game, when a salute to all the soldiers off fighting the Gulf War was then 'heard half way around the world' by us and I'm sure will be exceeded on Memorial day.
The first time the Blackhawks have EVER played this late in the season.

Truth is this team has been really exciting to watch and it takes a great team to get this savvy fan to even pay attention after 45 years of failure minus 1961's Championship 3 years before I was born and an appearance in 1992 both under original NHL owner, Dollar Bill Wirtz, who hockey fans know pinched the quarters so tight around here the eagles would scream.
He dies 3 years ago, his son Rocky puts this team together and viola, the Super Bowl of Hockey as the Hawks are there, as are the fans and I'm gonna make enough to pay my mortgage for a couple years selling my tickets.!!

I won't unload all of them, I'll keep the game 4 and 7's which the latter they hopefully won't need ....but if they do I wouldn't miss that one for the world. After all, I've been waiting my whole life for this shit.
This was a decent game filled with penalties, nor did the Blackhawks didn't push the Sharks around too much on San Jose's home ice, but they played well enough, barely escaping with the road win on unfriendly ice.
And that's all that really counts when it's playoff time.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Leave it to Buff. Dustin Byfuglien came through once again when the Blackhawks needed him most -- to break the tie and ultimately seal a 2-1 victory against the San Jose Sharks in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Sunday at HP Pavilion.
Byfuglien scored the tiebreaker at 13:15 in the third period, with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews being credited with the assist.
The Sharks attempted to tie the game again but couldn't, not even after Kris Versteeg was sent to the penalty box at 19:04 for tripping.
The game ended with Versteeg still out on the penalty.
Blackhawks goaltender Antti Niemi ended the game with 44 saves out of 45 shots. Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov stopped 38 out of 40 shots by the Blackhawks.

Any pro will tell you the keys to winning playoffs is winning games
away from your home ice and they've been able to do that during the
first playoff series they won over the Nashville Predators, and now
they've sent the Canucks home for the season with their devoted but
deservedly dejected fans who could be heard leaving to the chant "WTF
is Canuck anyways?" lol..just kiddin'.
So
it's another series win and "Go Hawks" for all the bandwagoner's who'll
be looking for a seat on the train now that they're a couple wins away
from the Stanly Cup Finals after first meeting the equally formidable
San Jose Sharks, who the Hawks incidentally handled pretty well during
the regular season, as they did with most teams in the league this
2009-10 season finishing with a barn burning 112 points, which is almost
identical to the final record of the Sharks this season as
well....wooooo...spooky
Pretty evenly matched teams on paper, they can't get much closer than that after a long hockey season which is coming down now to the wire and the very best of the best.

I guess you can see it's game 6 tonight for the Blackhawks and after losing Sunday night they're still up 3 games to 2 and can wrap the series tonight, or come home on a 2 game losing streak, facing elimination after being up 3 games to 1 at one time.
We'll take that win tonight instead of the other scenario, and hopefully we'll be reporting back a series win tonight before the day wraps up..

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- John Madden knew right away, or at least a couple of shifts into Game 5.
“Vancouver has traditionally played a certain way,” Madden said after Tuesday’s morning skate. “There’s two ways you can look at it: They’re not into the game; or two: they are playing a different style.”
It turns out the latter was the case, and although the Hawks tried to adjust mid-stride, it became harder after Vancouver scored first.
“You realize when you watch video, you have a lot more time with the puck,” Madden explained. “We’re going to go back to our control game.”
And that means holding onto the rubber a little bit longer, when necessary.
“Playoff hockey is fast,” Patrick Sharp said. “But sometimes when we have the puck, we can take that extra half second and look for a play or take it ourselves. That’s something you can look through on video and learn as you go along.”
So what’s the bottom line?

On to the Vancouver Canucks for the next series who they split the season meetings with at 2 games a piece after a crazy game that featured 5 quick goals in the first period alone, as the teams eventually settled down as the Hawks head back to Chicago winners.
Moving on to the next round after a lean decade aside from last year's trip to the conference finals, losing to Detroit nearly being swept as you can see here from this little mini record from their website.
Great game we're watching this afternoon myself and a couple neighbors, and at first it looked as if the Hawks were gonna run away with it jumping to a 3-1 lead at one point of the game, but then dropped a few goals to the Predators giving them a 1 goal lead.
Then with just a few seconds to go tying it up by notching a "Hail Mary" which was scored by Chicago star Patrick Kane, locking the game at 4, and sending it into hockey's version of "Sudden death"
Which starts with a 4th period added on the regulation 3, translating
into 60 minutes of ice time "plus", if no one scores, which takes the
energy out of even the best conditioned athletes, as anyone who's
skated in any kind of hockey game can attest. Brutal
If neither team scores during this period, the teams use a
penalty-shot shootout, consisting of three players in the NHL or five
players in the minor leagues (AHL, ECHL, UHL, Central), to determine
the winner. In the NHL, if no team wins this shootout, a 1-by-1,
sudden-death shootout ensues. No player may shoot twice until every
non-goaltender on the bench has taken a shot.
During championship playoffs, however, all games are played to a
conclusion resulting in a victory for one team and a loss for the
other. These are true sudden-death games, which have gone on into as
many as six additional full 20-minute periods with five players,
instead of the five-minute period with four players.
Anyhow at the quarter way mark through the Sudden Death the Hawk's Marion Hossa, one of their top stars, put the Predators to death and took game 5 at home, sending the Hawks fans into pandemonium as all of a sudden this team is looking like it did throughout the year's regular season.
And that's good news for them and bad news for the teams in their way, as they finished the season at the top of their Western Conference division, even exiling the perrennial Hawk slayers up in Detroit as you can see here in this season's closing standings.
That leaves the Hawks up in the series 3 games to 2 and could let them wrap up the series, moving to the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs if they can win on Monday at 7pm in Nashville, which isn't the end as they'll head back for a supergame seven where tickets from here on out are gonna be hard to come by and 1/3 of the national debt for a family of four.
Tonight 2 primo "glass" tickets being sold legally at Ticketmaster online for a game 7 at home if they lose Monsay were going for $8000 for the pair. Don't believe me? Look for yourself.
That's brutal considering there's 2 more rounds to go. Season ticket holders can pay their kid's college tuition if the Hawks go all the way to the Stanley Cup.
Because they know darn well as do many here that the REAL Hawks fans "to the core" will sell their girlfriends or wives if still have them to go to that series. That is unless they go with him if there's room in the trunk (*lol) with the buddies up in the front seats, and give up that "Hawaiian vacation" to pay for it all "at those prices" which they were planning, because it may never happen again in this lifetime in this city.
Particularly since Obama's sinking the country faster than the Titanic sunk. Which by the way reminds me now that they're looking like they'll be hopefully advancing, Obama was never A HAWKS FAN, and as a matter of fact "despises" the all white NHL hockey league.
So should you hear him jump on the bandwagon in the coming weeks, come back here and I'll set everyone straight on that bullshit.

The Haws continue their awesome season staying alive last night with a nice shutout of the Nashville predators in game four which evens the series 2-2 and game 5 here in Chicago at the house Michael Jordan built on Madison Avenue and it will be rocking
Starting of course with the vaunted National Anthem tribute that gets everyone in the house pumped up for the action......that is, except for liberals looking for a reason to take down patriots anyway they can, by pretending to be so themselves making hay over what most all military men and women consider an nightly honor dedicated to their service to our country while we play thanks to them..
