Life in the Mob According to "Junior" Gotti | 60 Minutes Videos

My own family came to America spending their earliest years "off the boat"  living in the notorious Hell's kitchen neighborhood in Manhattan New York City which is also known as "Mid Town West", with friends who sponsored them. This area is known as where the American Italian Mob has VERY much influence, and I hate to say it, but it garnered a certain amount of respect back in the day of the early 1900's in the neighborhoods there along with others here in Chicago, which continues to some extent through today.

My Italian great grandfather sent all his children from Italy to America to attend college,  a direct result of his hard and successful work in the wineries there, allowing my grandfather Ray Senior to attend NYU, which was the key to his ultimate success here in America which was great enough to still support his last surviving daughter, my beloved grandmother Santa Felitto,  right through her death at 95 years old just a month ago in Lakeland Florida with her son, my father and his wife by her side.

He was the first of 4 men in my family to ultimately  have earned  Harvard Business School degrees in the 20th century,  enabling them to escape the NYC ghetto's, the mafioso scene which was so ingrained in the community by moving the family up to Greenwich Connecticut. So to conclude and make a long story short, the rest as they say "is history" and here I am today.

"Not a single liberal in the bunch by the way" I thought I should add considering the Northeastern Ivy league history our education.

This Gotti family has always been interesting to me and others to say the least. I abhor criminal enterprises as do most law abiding citizens and my family was never connected to the mob directly as far as I've been told,  but must admit my favorite reading and movies to watch are related to this very segment of society,  I guess because of my Italian New York  heritage.

In fact,   the small comune Felitto, located in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of Southwest Italy is actually named after my great great grandfather who's son's story I just told above, which is mostly known for Fusilli which is a kind of handmade pasta, and the yearly Fusillo festival.

So there's some overlap there and it's interesting to me.

One time Gambino family boss John Gotti has a son of the same name and the once notorious Junior engaged in an lengthy interview with Steve Kroft from 60 minutes which left my weekly viewing schedule with the Dan Rathergate BDS episode and slowly I return only for special viewing and having just watched the Masters I continued on watching this. Yahoo! News: "CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (Reuters) – Gunmen in the drug war-plagued Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez killed two Americans and a Mexican linked to the local U.S. consulate, an attack U.S. President Barack Obama said 'outraged' him.

An American woman working at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez, just over the border from El Paso, Texas, and her U.S. husband were fatally shot by suspected drug gang hitmen in broad daylight on Saturday as they left a consulate social event, U.S. and Mexican officials told Reuters.

A Mexican man married to another consulate employee was killed around the same time in another part of the city after he and his wife left the same event, a U.S. official said.

The U.S. official, who asked not to be identified, said it was not clear if the victims had been specifically targeted, and the motive for the attacks was unknown.

Bloodshed has exploded in recent months in Ciudad Juarez as the head of the Juarez cartel, Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, fights off a bloody offensive by Mexico's No. 1 fugitive drug lord, Joaquin 'Shorty' Guzman, at the worst hotspot of Mexico's three-year-old drug war.

'The president is deeply saddened and outraged by the news,' said White House National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer. He said Obama 'shares in the outrage of the Mexican people at the murders of thousands in Ciudad Juarez and elsewhere in Mexico.'

The U.S. State Department updated its warning on travel to Mexico to say it had authorized the departure of dependents of U.S. government personnel from consulates in Ciudad Juarez and five other northern border cities."

This is an act of war as far as I'm concerned as the Drug cartels operate with impunity in that country so the government should be held responsible. I'm sick of the US government treating Mexico like friends of ours simply because they're our neighbors.

John Gacy was once a neighbor and I didn't make friends with him simply because he lived in the next town, so why we continue to treat them as friends when they won't stop their citizenry from fleeing over the border north.

Just imagine all the money this country could save if Mexico was like Canada and we didn't have support half their population who cross the border illegally, who then steal from that very point every minute they are here, considering they shouldn't be here in the first place.

They steal medical care, they steal jobs, they don't pay income taxes which allows them to live a HIGHER STANDARD OF LIVING than an American working right next to them, and most of all,  they commit crimes at a rate equal to the 10,000 times larger legal population, and I could go on for an hour as you could too I'm sure.


Sounds more like something an enemy of ours would do day after day, not a so called friend and ally,  no?

And now they're killing American government employees along with border citizens of the US and Mexico? Do the world a favor and nuke that place OR build a 20 foot electrified fence from California to the border of Mississippi with a mote filled with alligators the entire length. That's the ONLY way these illegals are kept out of our country which people of all races and nationalities are clamoring to do around the globe for a multitude of reasons, most of which are nefarious nowadays. Hardly anyone comes here today with the number one goal of becoming Americans FIRST. T

That's the last thing on their list nowadays.

Tonia Carmichael's remains were found at the home of Anthony Sowell, but the news was no surprise to Carmichael's family members.

'This is what I've been saying since Monday, when, you know, we were called to the coroner's office and since this story broke,' said Danita Carmichael, the victim's daughter." more here

Gotta love this little street justice video as a man robbed a woman on the Curitiba street and, after he punched her as well, he then escaped on his motorcycle.

However, the driver of the Mercedes' witnessed the crime and chased the biker for some kilometers. When he finally had the chance, he slammed his car into the biker, crushing him against and actually slams this bum through the brick wall, which he survives as you see in the video which contains the aftermath, not the collision

This man will think three times before stealing a woman's purse again, that's for sure.

It's the age of Obama folks....one which is ushering in this new un American quality of not only Americans of all walks of life looking for the easy way out of their problems, some getting million, and billion dollar handouts, but some like these everyday folks getting mad and then even violent when the free cash stops flowing in....what used to be known in this society and most others dating back millenniums  as DEADBEATS!!

So here this nutty lady spends 5 grand in there, and then all of a sudden 200, 300 people are calling their friends and neighbors on their cell phones (which every single one has) for free shit at Burlington as you'll see in the video and nowhere in the report are the people condemned for trashing the store, unfreakin believable...

I wouldn't even get off the freaking couch if one of my neighbors or friends called me up with that news, I'll tell you that ... much less drive over there and trash the place instead of kicking myself for being a greedy slime.

Internet "Star" Jonathan Hock Rapes Woman Live On Web?

I always disliked this guy for how he achieved so called "fame", thought something was sick about him all along... not to mention how I could never understand the enormous popularity of the now arrested obvious but yet to be convicted sex offender....the tape says it all, although he might skate because "penetration is required for a rape conviction I believe I read and they maintain there was none...oh except orally....

Beyond Stupidity: Suspect returned to Ohio home 2 hours after robbery to ask victim out on date

This is so far beyond stupidity, this kid is so dangerous and dumb as dirt, both he and his parents should be neutered.

Yahoo! Canada News: "COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio police say a suspect in a robbery was arrested when he returned to the home about two hours later to ask the victim out on a date.

Police say 20-year-old Stephfon Bennett was among three men who robbed a couple late Sunday.

Columbus police Sgt. Sean Laird says the woman recognized Bennett as one of the robbers when he returned to ask her out. She had a relative call police.

Police say Bennett was arrested in front of the home. He was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of aggravated robbery and was being held in the Franklin County jail on $100,000 bail.

A public defender had not yet been assigned to Bennett's case."

NFL's Merriman arrested, accused of choking Tila Tequila

I don't really know too much about Tila Tequila but I do know you don't go around beatin' women and thinking afterwords, everything's gonna be fine.

What compels a 300 lb man to attack a 100lb women is simply beyond comprehension to me, and if a job allowing you to make millions basically fkng around for a living isn't enough incentive not to do stupid things than nothing is...and the NFL is full of these slugs from coast to coast.

Now including this man, Shawn Merriman of the San Diego Chargers...

If guilty this man should join Vick and the others first on the NFL unemployment lines and soon the League can film a real version of The Longest Yard with real live NFL criminals.

CNN.com: "(CNN) -- San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of choking and restraining MTV reality show star Tila Tequila, police said."

However, Merriman's attorney denied the allegations, saying more than a dozen other people were at Merriman's house in suburban San Diego, California, at the time of the incident and "witness after witness after witness will back up his story 100 percent."

Authorities responded to a disturbance call about 3:45 a.m. Sunday from a woman who said she had been choked and restrained by a male, the sheriff's department of San Diego County, California, said in a statement.

When police arrived, "the reporting party identified herself as Tila Nguyen, aka Tila Tequila, and her alleged assailant as Shawne Merriman," the statement said.

"Nguyen told deputies she had been choked and physically restrained by Merriman when she attempted to leave his residence," the statement said.

Nguyen signed a citizen's arrest at the scene, and Merriman was taken into custody on suspicion of battery and false imprisonment, according to the statement.

Deputies didn't see any physical injuries on Nguyen, but she asked to be transported to a local hospital, sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said. Nguyen's condition was not immediately known.

Merriman's attorney, Todd Macaluso, told reporters that Nguyen was "extremely intoxicated and inebriated" and that the player tried to make arrangements for her to leave the house.

"At no time did Mr. Merriman assault her. At no time did Mr. Merriman keep her against her will," Macaluso said. "His intentions were nothing but good. ... We're very confident that this matter will be resolved without any charges being filed whatsoever."

Caldwell said alcohol "was involved" on Nguyen's part. Caldwell didn't elaborate.

Merriman was released from jail late Sunday morning. Caldwell said she didn't know whether Merriman was released on bail or on his own recognizance.

The district attorney's office will determine whether criminal charges will be pursued, Caldwell said.

As Tila Tequila, Nguyen starred on the MTV reality shows "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" in 2007 and "A Shot at Love 2 With Tila Tequila" in 2008.

On her Twitter account, Nguyen did not mention the incident but tweeted about going to meet Merriman on Saturday.

In a statement posted on the Chargers' Web site Sunday, team General Manager A.J. Smith said it is "disappointing to hear about the issue involving Shawne Merriman."

"We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course," Smith said.

Merriman, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is entering his fifth year with the Chargers and the NFL. He recorded at least 10 sacks in each of his first three seasons, but he was limited to one game last season because of a knee injury that required surgery.

The Chargers begin their 2009 NFL regular-season campaign on September 14 in Oakland, California, for a game against the Raiders.

Stranger Slaps Crying Child In Wal-Mart

I cringe at the sound of uncontrollable kids as we all have, but I'll bet you never saw someone with the combimation of both cajone's and ignorance at both the same time until you see what this guy did to this crying baby in a Stone Mountain GA Wal Mart....

I don't condone this and the frustrated guy has a bit of a point, but a crying baby is a lot different than obnoxious rugrats the mom's just can't control sometimes....after all I was one once...(some might say I still am :( You just don't smack other people's kids and that's that...

so off to prison he goes with no bail and certainly not top line defense since he's out of work meaning the taxpayers'll pick this tab up all the way down the line.

News Story - WSB Atlanta: "STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- A total stranger is accused of slapping a fussy 2-year-old in a Wal-Mart in Stone Mountain.

Authorities say the girl and her mother were shopping at Wal-Mart on Tuesday morning when the toddler began to cry.

Roger Stephens, 61, approached the mother and told her, 'If you don't shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you.'

Moments later, Stephens grabbed the 2-year-old girl and slapped her at least four times and told the mother, 'See, I told you I would shut her up.'

The child began screaming and Stephens walked away.

Another shopper stopped Stephens until store security arrived.

Police say an examination showed the girl sustained slight redness to the face.

Stephens was jailed without bond on several charges including felony cruelty to children."

A Look Into The Backyard Where Woman Held Captive

At quick glance it appears to be a real life model of the set of Sanford and Son, yet we know this was more like a scene of a new version of Psycho with the 2 crazy screws Phillip Garrido, 58, and his 54-year-old wife, Nancy, being arrested last week on suspicion of abducting Jaycee Lee Dugard and holding her captive for 18 freaking years..

They pleaded not guilty Friday to a total of 29 counts, including forcible abduction, rape and false imprisonment, and this video gives us a glimpse of what poor Jaycee Lee was living like under the thumb of that scum mentioned above.

Good News From The 'Sickest Criminal' Files "Baby cut from slain mom's womb found alive"

in her apartment closet, according to authorities.

How flickin sick and demented does one have to be to commit such an heinous crime as this I ask? The worst of crimes to say the least, of which we've seen repeated time and time again across this land, seemingly ever since a time ago when the third known instance of this type of an nearly inexplicable crime occurred 6 miles north of my neighborhood in a city called Addison IL.

That is where and when this human animal named Jacqueline Williams, along with her accomplice and boyfriend Fedell Caffey, nearly set the trend for the sickest among us when the did the very same thing to a young awaiting mother, who happened to be the sick killer's friend of all things..

Meanwhile, Flashback to Addison, Illinois - 1995, a day I and many others Illinoisans remember well.

In Addison, Illinois, Jacqueline Williams, her boyfriend Fedell Caffey and her cousin Lavern Ward went to the apartment of Ward’s ex-girlfriend, Deborah Evans. Evans had a nineteen month old child by Ward.

On November 16, 1995, The abductors shot her in the head and stabbed the ten year old daughter to death. They then performed a crude cesarean section, and took the newborn and eight year old boy with them, leaving the nineteen month old unharmed.

The abductors cut the eight year old boy’s throat and left the body ten miles from the crime scene. People from the community identified the abductors, and the newborn was recovered safely.

Sometimes it's a sick and sad world we live in, especially when sick people like those two above and this latest instance of fetal extraction and abduction cross our headlines each day, and all we can do is hope we and or law enforcement professionals we count on each day can catch these killers, and then pray some exact, swift and severe justice is administered upon they as soon as humanly possible, before they act again and again.

Baby cut from slain mom's womb found alive - CNN.com:

"(CNN) -- A baby believed to be ripped from the womb of its mother has been found, Massachusetts police said Wednesday. In addition, authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the crime." Police had searched for the baby since Monday, when her mother, Darlene Haynes, was found dead in the closet of her Worcester apartment.

Officers received tips from women who became suspicious of Julie A. Corey, a friend of Haynes who turned up with a newborn girl at the time that Haynes went missing.

Haynes told friends she delivered a baby sometime between July 23 and July 24 at an undisclosed Massachusetts hospital, according to authorities.

Police learned that Corey had moved to New Hampshire with a boyfriend. Police later found Corey and the baby Wednesday afternoon in Plymouth, New Hampshire.

The baby was in fairly good health and was taken to a hospital, Worcester police said.

Corey, 35, was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice.

Police discovered Haynes' body Monday, after neighbors complained about a stench.

Haynes, 23, was found in the closet of a bedroom, wrapped in bedding. Police think she had been dead for several days. She was last seen on July 23, and Corey was one of the last people to see her, authorities said. Video Watch neighbors describe victim »

A friend of Haynes told CNN affiliate WHDH that she received a text message from Haynes at 11:20 p.m. Thursday that said she was having wine coolers with a friend at her apartment.

House Democrats Join Pelosi in Accusing CIA of Misleading, Lying to Congress

The 7th democrat's are using Bush and the threat of endless partisan investigations of any sort as their ticket to ride in this 111th congress run by Nancy and Harry (reality show possibility?) to do whatever the hell they feel like doing, as is evident by their reckless abandon to slate their entire agenda at any cost while they own the keys to the show as they now do.

This situation going back a month or so ago with Nancy Pelosi calling the CIA a bunch of liars which she denies, is now the threat they're using to keep any more investigations or attention focused on this now, with this unknown Texas Democrat and 6 others basically warning as much with a letter to the republicans calling the CIA liars.

FOXNews.com: "WASHINGTON -- A second Congressional Democrat is accusing the U.S. intelligence community of not telling the truth.

Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, sent a letter Tuesday to the panel's top Republican, Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., expressing concerns he has about the truthfulness America's spy apparatus.

In the letter, Reyes says he believes 'this Committee has been misled, has not been provided full and complete notifications, and (in at least one case) was affirmatively lied to.'

In the spring, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the CIA of lying to her about interrogation techniques used on terrorism suspects. Republicans have had a field day with speaker's remarks and have demanded that she provide proof that the CIA failed to tell her the truth.

The House is poised Thursday to debate an intelligence authorization bill. In an interview with FOX News, Reyes says he was concerned that Republicans might try to corner Pelosi on the interrogation issue.

'We all know there have been a number of contentious issues that have been much publicized,' said Reyes, who indicated he wrote the letter in an attempt to curb GOP efforts to target Pelosi. more

Jail Brass At Rikers Were Foxy "BrownNosers"

This story in the New York Post reveals the kind of treatment an imprisoned rapper received at New York's Riker's Prison recently, while other prisoners are locked up in their cages actually being punished and treated like prisoners.

But not this so called "Foxxy" Brown, thanks to suck up celebrity hound Jail brass at this place, who should be fired and investigated for obvious bribery, and should do some time for allowing this woman to live it up in prison while shacked up for a parole violation.

This celebrity culture has gone absolutely wild, as we now live in a day and age where a "Rap" star can bribe jail officials right in plain view. It used be that the mafia were the only one's who could pull that stuff off.

New York Post: "It's a jailhouse crock.

City prison officials acted like an entourage of fawning valets for rapper Foxy Brown when she was locked up on Rikers Island, hanging out in her cell, bringing meals and makeup, giving her unlimited TV and phone use, and toting her bags when she was released last April.

Brown, who did nine months for a parole violation after she punched and kicked two nail-salon manicurists in 2006, wore Gucci sneakers and a Fendi scarf -- and when they got dirty, new ones were brought to her.

The diva's jailers also set up an interview and photo shoot with a magazine, which ran a feature on the raunchy rapper that helped hype her new album.

So say outraged Department of Correction insiders, who told The Post that Brown's coddling was yet another example of an unruly agency flouting its own regulations and security for the privileged few.

"It's just out of control," one official said.

Said another, "There's a total lack of leadership at the top."

Correction chief Peter Curcio and the prison's top rabbi, Leib Glanz, resigned last week after The Post exposed a lavish bar mitzvah that Glanz arranged for an inmate's son at a lower-Manhattan lockup, along with other perks showered on select prisoners.

The city Department of Investigation and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office are probing Glanz and his boss, Imam Umar Abdul-Jalil, in the matter.

Abdul-Jalil played a key role in Brown's star treatment, the sources said, going to bat for the hip-hop hottie when she wanted something special.

"Umar would call the warden, and the warden at the time would comply," one insider said.

Two other ministers who report to Abdul-Jalil -- the Rev. Kevin Green and Imam Aisha Muhammad -- helped arrange Brown's good-time treatment, despite the rapper's bad behavior as an inmate at Rikers' Rose M. Singer Center, the insiders said. Brown is Christian.

"They were in her cell day and night," one department supervisor said. "Whatever she wanted, Sister Aisha would talk to warden [Michelle] Mack and get it."

Mack, for her part, was "star-struck," a source said.

This falls under the "when a cop reasonably asks you to do something, do it" category, and don't start swinging at 'em like this little liberal parenting product did when a PA school cop asked him politely to stop jabberwockying on his cell phone.

His brilliant answer was basically a "screw you pig" coupled with a few misguided roundhouses to which the cop responded with a little attitude adjuster they call a "drive stun" that he and his little tough guy buddies will likely never forget.

Pittsburgh Post- Gazette: "The kid refused to listen. The officer took him by the arm and said, 'You have to go to the office.' The student resisted, pushed the officer. The officer, defending himself, took out his stun gun and did a drive stun."

Cop's trial in bartender beating to begin - Chicago Breaking News

A little refresher on this case if I may.

It's a case in which one of the most cowardly persons to ever wear a badge that I can recollect, where an off duty, drunk as a skunk Chicago cop literally beats the crap out of a female bartender in a crime that shamed Chicago and it's entire police department, (which usually does a fine job doing that on it's own by the way) occurring back in February 2007 which is finally coming to trial starting today.

And you can bet I for one will be rooting for a long and painful incarceration for this coward upon his most certain conviction as there's no excuse for what occurred here although he and his lawyers will certainly to to lay some blame at the victim or the bar for overserving him, or some other disgraceful and unacceptable excuse.

Otherwise he would have already done the honorable thing by admitting guilt, heading straight to prison where he belongs and most certainly will end up we all hope and pray, instead of selfishly and again cowardly dragging this poor and innocent woman through yet another beating she doesn't deserve. .

Cop's trial in bartender beating to begin - Chicago Breaking News: "A Chicago police officer accused of viciously beating a female bartender in February 2007 is scheduled to go on trial today in the crime that was recorded on surveillance video and provoked a firestorm of criticism for the department.

The security video allegedly shows Anthony Abbate, a 12-year police veteran who was then off-duty, pummeling the bartender inside a Northwest Side bar after she refused to serve him more drinks.

The bartender, Karolina Obrycka, suffered injuries to her head, arms and ribs."

Officers Fired Over Beating of Unconscious Man -Video

This is Chicago Ray's policy on people or should I say criminals who are crazy enough to run from the police when they are asked to pull over seeing this in their rear view mirrors:

If they're running they're already a dangerous criminal, because no one else runs unless they're wanted by police somewhere for something, they're drunk or high and possibly already driving on revoked or suspended license, the car is filled with weapons, illicit drugs or both...and that's just for starters of what the police must contend with before beginning to chase this obvious bum.

As far as I'm concerned, once they make the decision to run, they're open game to be hunted, and once the police catch up to them they're free to do whatever the hell they want to to this obvious dangerous threat to their lives and all the lives they disregarded, like yours and mine and everyone else's as they went whizzing by countless cars with complete disregard while being pursued by police.

If you make the crazy decision to run from a police stop, you're already saying to the police and the world "I Don't Give A Flying F*&^"...... and for that reason cops can just shoot 'em dead as far as I'm concerned. And under the circumstances, a piddly little ass whooping should be met with a grateful 'Thank you sir, may I have another" as you gave up all your rights once you chose to flee, that's my policy in a nutshell, finito.

Just like this miserable piece of breathing scum who took police on a lengthy high speed chase until the very end at which point the vehicle he's driving flips over leaving the roadway, as the unconscious scum is ejected through an open window or sunroof, while the cops that arrive on the scene proceed to administer an ass whooping on what appears in the video to be an unconscious hunk of human garbage, or at least he acts that way while being pummeled.

I believe it to be an act myself.

So basically, as a result these 5 officers who risked their lives trying to make sure this criminal didn't hurt anyone on his selfish joyride are now unemployed and for all they knew at that moment, that guy was gonna flip over the second they arrived and start shooting at them with a concealed weapon, so for that reasoning alone I say this firing is complete bullshit and if this guy is awarded any money on top of it I'd begin filing some lawsuits of my own rest assured..

How do they know he's unconscious? For all they know this hunk of scum was smart enough to know this would be on camera and put on this act just for this very reason, as a way to deflect the attention fron the fact that he's the damn criminal here, not the damn cops.

Another Murderer Sent To The Next Life In Texas

They don;t get much more brutal than this little monster who murdered a poor woman who managed to live 85 years on this planet until this scum decided he needed some free money for crack or whatever was his immediate want that he his four accomplices obviously didn't want to work for, which in this case turned out to be $20 and a Cadillac belongong .

And like a typical criminal his last words were designed to elicit sympathy as his he blames his tragic existence on everyone but himself in one short sentence which the AP writer somehow mistakes for deathbed remorse, right in the first paragraph.

It's all about the criminal and hardly anything about the victim Martha Lennox until the very last paragraph. So I'm Moving it to the top right here..

So her long lineage of Americans that helped build this country and look how she's snuffed out like a dog by 5 human walking and talking slugs.

Texas executes killer of elderly woman in robbery:

My Way News - "HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - An Oklahoma man convicted of shooting an 85-year-old woman to death during a burglary in far northeast Texas in 1993 was executed Tuesday night.

From the death chamber gurney, Willie Pondexter said he didn't murder anyone, but expressed remorse and apologized for his involvement in the crime.

'I am not mad. I'm a little upset and disappointed in the courts. I feel I've been let down,' he said.

Pondexter said that was all right. 'I just played the hand that life dealt me,' he said.

He looked toward the district attorney who prosecuted him and a distant cousin of his victim and said, 'I know I'm wrong asking you to forgive me.'

Before he could say anything else, the lethal drugs began taking effect. At 6:18 p.m., nine minutes after the lethal injection began, he was pronounced dead.

Pondexter, 34, was one of two men condemned for the murder of Martha Lennox at her home in Clarksville. He was the ninth Texas inmate executed this year and the first of two scheduled to die on consecutive nights in Huntsville."

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to stop the execution in a ruling that came less than 30 minutes before he was scheduled to die.

Pondexter was a high school dropout from Idabel, Okla. At the time of the slaying he was a 19-year-old unmarried father of two with an extensive criminal record.

Pondexter said he was in Lennox's elegant Victorian home near the courthouse square the night of Oct. 28, 1993. He acknowledged shooting her but said he didn't fire the fatal shot.

"I wasn't the guy who killed her," he told The Associated Press recently from death row. "For the part I played in it, I apologize."

Lennox was shot twice - once in the jaw and once in the head. A medical examiner testified that either shot could have been fatal.

Pondexter said a companion, James Leon Henderson, 35, shot Lennox first and then gave the gun to him to fire the second shot.

"At 19, I was like, a follower," he said. "If I didn't go along, you're a punk. At 19, that's my thought process."

Lennox's family was worth millions and a foundation in the family name continues its work although neither she nor her two deceased older brothers ever married.

Pondexter, Henderson and three others involved in the burglary and slaying fled with less than $20 from her purse and the woman's Cadillac. They were arrested hours later in Dallas after trying to rob a man walking along a street.

Pondexter and Henderson were sentenced to death; Henderson remains on death row. The three others received prison terms.

In 1997, some three years after arriving on death row, Pondexter nearly escaped with another condemned inmate by cutting through a recreation yard fence with a hacksaw blade.

Jack Herrington, the Red River County district attorney at the time who prosecuted Pondexter, said the slaying of one of Clarksville's most prominent residents "shook the whole community."

"She was the sweetest lady, lived in the big house all by herself," he said.
