Yahoo! News: "TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad survived an attack with a homemade explosive device on his motorcade during a visit to the western city of Hamadan on Wednesday, a source in his office said.
The source said Ahmadinejad's convoy was targeted as he was traveling from Hamadan's airport to give a speech in a local sports arena and the president was unhurt but others had been injured in the blast.
One person had been arrested, the presidency source said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
The populist, hard-line Ahmadinejad has accumulated enemies in conservative and reformist circles in the Islamic Republic as well as abroad.
Al Arabiya television said an attacker had thrown a bomb at Ahmadinejad's convoy before being detained.
Dubai-based Al Arabiya television cited its own sources as saying the bomb had hit a car carrying journalists and presidential staff.

Only an international campaign designed to pressure the regime in Tehran can save her life, according to Mina Ahadi, head of the International Committee Against Stoning and the Death Penalty.
"Legally it's all over," Ahadi said Sunday. "It's a done deal. Sakineh can be stoned at any minute."

It was not immediately clear whether Iran's apparent concessions, following months of deadlock over a U.N.-drafted fuel swap plan, would satisfy major powers which have been discussing a new round of punitive U.N. measures against Tehran.
Analysts say the agreement may allow Tehran to avert new tougher U.N. sanctions, split the major powers and help the leadership reassert its authority after months of unrest and opposition that followed the presidential election last June.
A European Commission spokesman said the agreement between the leaders of Iran, Turkey and Brazil may be a step in the right direction, but details needed to be seen.
Moscow, Berlin and Paris also said they wanted more information before commenting, although the French foreign ministry added the deal would not resolve core concerns.
"... Let us not deceive ourselves, a solution to the (fuel) question, if it happens, would do nothing to settle the problem posed by the Iranian nuclear program," spokesman Bernard Valero said in a statement.

Gates wrote the three-page memo in January and it set off efforts in the Pentagon, White House and intelligence agencies to come up with new options, including the use of the military, The New York Times said in its Sunday editions, quoting unnamed government officials.
White House officials Saturday night strongly disagreed with the comments that the memo caused a reconsideration of the administration's approach to Iran.
'It is absolutely false that any memo touched off a reassessment of our options,' National Security Council spokesman Benjamin Rhodes told The Associated Press. 'This administration has been planning for all contingencies regarding Iran for many months.'
One senior official described the memo as 'a wake-up call,' the paper reported. But the recipient of the document, Gen. James Jones, President Barack Obama
's national security adviser, told the newspaper in an interview that the administration has a plan that 'anticipates the full range of contingencies.'
Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell, who did not confirm the memo Saturday night, said the White House has reviewed many Iran options.
'The secretary believes the president and his national security team have spent an extraordinary amount of time and effort considering and preparing for the full range of contingencies with respect to Iran,' Morrell said.
The U.S. is pressing for new international sanctions against Iran. The memo contemplates a situation in which sanctions and diplomacy fail to dissuade Iran from pursuing nuclear capability, the Times said.
Obama set a deadline of the end of 2009 for Iran to respond to his offer of dialogue to resolve concerns about Iran's accelerated nuclear development.
Iran spurned the offer, and since then the administration has pursued what it calls the 'pressure track,' a combination of stepped-up military activity in Iran's neighborhood and a hard push for a new round of international sanctions that would pinch Iran economically.
Gates and other senior members of the administration have issued increasingly stern warnings to Iran that its nuclear program is costing it friends and options worldwide, while sticking to the long-held view that a U.S. or Israeli military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities would be counterproductive.
Obama and other administration figures have drawn a line that says Iran will not be allowed to become a nuclear state, but they have not spelled out what the United States would do if Iran gained the ability to produce a weapon but does not actually field one.
Four senior administration officials told Congress last week that Iran is perhaps a year away from being able to build a weapon but that it would take two- to five additional years to turn the device into an effective weapon that could be launched against an enemy.

The first time I saw the swirling logo for the Nuclear Security Summit, it looked familiar. I soon figured out what it reminded me of: a crescent moon.

Indeed, the crescent, often with a single or multiple stars, is the main symbol of Islam. So now there is something like it at an official presidential event, prominently displayed in photographs being beamed around the world.
No, I am not suggesting President Obama is a secret Muslim. But I am certain the crescent-like design of the logo is not a coincidence, especially at an event where Iran's nuclear ambition and al Qaeda's search for a bomb are prime topics.
Obama has been open about his aim to improve America's relations with Muslims. His bowing and apologies are nauseating, but they are consistent with his goal.
And so is having a crescent-like logo at an event attended by Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani (above), among others. The Washington Conference Center is plastered with the design, which includes a solid white circle above the arc, all superimposed on a world map.
Consistent also is a report this week that says terms with religious connotations, such as 'Islamic extremists' and 'jihad,' will no longer be used in National Security Council documents.

NEW YORK - Federal prosecutors Thursday took steps to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government.

This is a budding revolution as we all can see, one that Obama first ridiculously characterized as a "Robust Debate", an idiotic statement of which we clobbered him for last week in this post, long before he began to backpedal on his dumb assed assessment of the obvious explosive Iranian elections.
Our government should have been far more prepared for this than they obviously were, and I'll tell you one thing, if this Chicago blogger can recognize a revolution before the POTUS.. we're in big, big trouble.

This situation is heating up as the powers that be in that medieval Iranian government made the mistake of killing a protester that's now making it's way around the world at lightening speed as it looks more and more like the Iranians weren't expecting Mahmoud the Madman to win this so called election over the weekend.
It will be almost impossible for these protesters to overcome the deadly Revolutionary Guard militiamen without some help, so hopefully the democratic powers that be are working on a plan to get these people some assistance from the outside world, which is pretty unlikely most experts contend this morning, although Senator Joe Lieberman was just seen on Fox News calling for just that.
One can always hope the people themselves simply say "enough is enough" of this 15th century Islamic rule crap and take the matters into their own hands, as then Western countries send in some CIA type assistance once the hoped and prayed for New revolution seems fully set in motion as this may just be the opportunity the world has been waiting for.

The Basij militia is a volunteer paramilitary force fiercely loyal to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who has the final say on all matters of state in Iran.
Earlier during the rally, a Reuters reporter said Mousavi supporters had formed a human chain outside the Basij building in order to prevent any trouble when demonstrators passed it.
Shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest), the crowds converged on Revolution Square, where Mousavi addressed part of the crowd through a loud hailer and held his fists clenched above his head, in a sign of victory.
The protest took place in defiance of an Interior Ministry ban and was a reply to Ahmadinejad's state-organised victory rally, which also drew vast crowds to Azadi Square on Sunday.
Supporters stretching along several kilometers (miles) of a Tehran boulevard waved green flags, Mousavi's campaign colors, and held portraits of him aloft as they tried to take pictures on their cellphones -- even though his words could not be heard above the noise of the crowd.

The European Union increased pressure on Iran to agree to opposition demands to investigate Ahmadinejad's landslide election victory and halt a crackdown on protesters.
France, Germany and Britain led the EU campaign to persuade Iran to clarify the election results.
In Paris, Foreign Ministry spokesman Eric Chevallier said Iran's ambassador had been summoned to hear French concerns over "the brutal repression of peaceful protests and the repeated attacks on the liberty of the press and freedom of speech."
Britain said it was worried that events in Iran might affect any future international engagement with its government.
"The implications are not yet clear," said British Foreign Secretary David Miliband. "What we know is that there has been no Iranian response to the outreach that has been made by the international community, including the United States."
The protests over Ahmadinejad's re-election are the sharpest display of discontent in the Islamic Republic for a decade -- and have drawn broader support than the student unrest of 1999.
"I just want to show the president that we are not bandits," said Maryam Sedaghati, a pro-Mousavi demonstrator in her 20s wearing a green headscarf. "I want my vote back."
A retired 61-year-old teacher who gave his name only as Ali said the rally recalled the 1979 Islamic revolution. "We used to protest against the shah in this street. I'm so sorry that now we have to walk the same street to preserve our rights"
