Right now the rules of engagement for soldiers in a land where the enemy intermingles with women and children should be to fire first and ask questions later but is instead a far cry from that. A military source close to Gen. David Petraeus told Fox News that one of the first things the general will do when he takes over in Afghanistan is to modify the rules of engagement to make it easier for U.S. troops to engage in combat with the enemy, though a Petraeus spokesman pushed back on the claim.
Troops on the ground and some military commanders have said the strict rules -- aimed at preventing civilian casualties -- have effectively forced the troops to fight with one hand tied behind their backs.
The military source who has talked with Petraeus said the general will make those changes. Other sources were not so sure, but said they wouldn't be surprised to see that happen once Petraeus takes command.
Petraeus spokesman Col. Eric Gunhus disputed the claim Friday, telling Fox News it's too soon to tell whether Petraeus would change the current rules. A nationwide alert has been issued for 17 members of the Afghan military who have gone AWOL from a Texas Air Force base where foreign military officers who are training to become pilots are taught English, FoxNews.com has learned.
The Afghan officers and enlisted men have security badges that give them access to secure U.S. defense installations, according to the lookout bulletin, "Afghan Military Deserters in CONUS [Continental U.S.]," issued by Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Dallas, and obtained by FoxNews.com.
The Afghans were attending the Defense Language Institute at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. The DLI program teaches English to military pilot candidates and other air force prospects from foreign countries allied with the U.S.
"I can confirm that 17 have gone missing from the Defense Language Institute," said Gary Emery, Chief of Public Affairs, 37th Training Wing, at Lackland AFB. "They disappeared over the course of the last two years, and none in the last three months."
Each Afghan was issued a Department of Defense Common Access Card, an identification card used to gain access to secure military installations, with which they "could attempt to enter DOD installations," according to the bulletin. Base security officers were encouraged to disseminate the bulletin to their personnel.
I still cannot believe this man, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal went out and handled this the way he did, almost I would say "extorting" his VFW buddies which is the way the world is, friends help friends in need but usually only when there's something in it for them nowadays sadly.

A cause which shouldn't need help, and if properly funded in the first place, these poor men would not have had to "whore themselves out" as they did in that video if you saw it , and would thus lead them to jettison this fake under any other circumstances. A fact that makes this whole thing even filthier than it appears, for manipulating the real heroes to stand shoulder to shoulder with him kind of like his buddies in congress do with their either 'show' or 'jilted wives'.

A Virginia military jury found a Navy SEAL not guilty Thursday on
all charges he punched an Iraqi suspected in the 2004 killings of four
U.S. contractors in Fallujah.
"I'm really happy right now," Matthew McCabe, the Navy SEAL, told
Fox News shortly after hearing the outcome of the court martial. "It's
an amazing feeling. I'm on cloud nine right now.""
McCabe, a special operations petty officer second class, called the
proceedings "troubling at times," adding "having your career on the
line is not an easy thing to handle.
McCabe was the third and final Navy SEAL to be prosecuted in the
case. He had faced charges of assault, making a false official
statement and dereliction of performance of duty for willfully failing
to safeguard a detainee. McCabe was accused of punching last year is
Ahmed Hashim Abed, the suspected mastermind of the grisly killings six

A British sniper set a world sharpshooting record by taking out two Taliban soldiers in Afghanistan from more than a mile and a half away -- a distance so great, experts say the terrorists wouldn't have even heard the shots.
Craig Harrison killed the two insurgents from an astounding distance of 8,120 feet -- or 1.54 miles -- in Helmand Province last November firing an Accuracy International L11583 long-range rifle.
'The first round hit a machine-gunner in the stomach and killed him outright,' said Harrison, a corporal of horse in the British Army's Household Cavalry, the equivalent of a sergeant in the American military."
"The second insurgent grabbed the weapon and turned as my second shot hit him in the side. He went down, too," Harrison told the Sunday Times of London.
The shots -- measured via GPS -- surpassed the previous record held by Canadian Army Cpl. Rob Furlong, who killed an al Qaeda gunman from 7,972 feet in 2002.
Harrison's shots were roughly equal to the distance between the Statue of Liberty and Battery Park.
