With Food-stamp Recipients Nearing Record 40 million, New "ObamaLink Card" To Replace "Paper Coupons"

 Well this certainly cannot be construed as a symbol of the Obama economy and just how wonderfully it's doing today, because a 1/8th of the U.S. population on food stamps isn't a great thing no matter how they slice it and re dice it down in ObamaDC and in the all new State run "Obama Ministry of Media Propaganda".. 

Considering the fact that 40 million Americans are using these has now prompted the Government to replace the rapidly wearing out "paper" food coupons with the newest versions being reprinted with the Chairman's picture is also adding unexpected millions to the program's already steep costs.

 

Therefore they must replace the coupons with a heavy usage Credit card version which will be easily adaptable to the already credit card using bankrupt public at large in "Urban Obama voter country".

So since the old coupons are being replaced, perhaps in the future we can use the "food stamp program" to honor those democrats out there who've starved more Americans than any others, and should Obama continue down this path they will just put his picture on the new and improved  so called "Illinois Link Card" and break it out nationwide over the summer

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Nearly 40 million Americans received food stamps -- the latest in an ever-higher string of record enrollment that dates from December 2008 and the U.S. recession, according to a government update.

Food stamps are the primary federal anti-hunger program, helping poor people buy food. Enrollment is highest during times of economic distress. The jobless rate was 9.9 percent, the government said on Friday.

The Agriculture Department said 39.68 million people, or 1 in 8 Americans, were enrolled for food stamps during February, an increase of 260,000 from January. USDA updated its figures on Wednesday.

"This is the highest share of the U.S. population on SNAP/food stamps," said the anti-hunger group Food Research and Action Center, using the new name for food stamps, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). "Research suggests that one in three eligible people are not receiving ... benefits."

Enrollment has set a record each month since reaching 31.78 million in December 2008. USDA estimates enrollment will average 40.5 million people this fiscal year, which ends Sept 30, at a cost of up to $59 billion. For fiscal 2011, average enrollment is forecast for 43.3 million people.

    The recovery remains jobless for most of the nation, with only 16 of 384 metro areas showing job gains in the past year, according to new Adversity Index data for February from Moody's Economy.com and msnbc.com.

    Of the nation's 384 metro areas, 205 had begun to recover, or 53 percent, according to the February Adversity Index. That's up from 185 metro areas in January, or 48 percent.

    But the gains have been confined to manufacturing and housing, not employment.

    Moreover, the only areas showing jobs growth are low-population areas. Here is a list of the 16 areas (only 4 percent of the total) showing job gains in the three-month period ending February 2010 compared with the same period a year earlier. They're ranked by annualized growth in jobs:

Reports show more Americans feel economic recovery (yea OK!)

I seem to remember liberals and the media hating this man when he was dragged in to the DC scene by president Bush in the early days of the collapsing dem created housing bubble with false loan applications and approvals across the board. Just a thought.

China warns Obama deficit spending must stop:

One day after the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao snubbed President Obama at the United Nation's Copenhagen Climate Summit, the Chinese warned the United States that China's ability to continue buying U.S. Treasury debt was limited.

Zhu Min, the deputy governor of the People's Republic of China, told the Shanghai Daily that it is getting harder for the People's Bank of China to buy U.S. Treasuries because the shrinking U.S. current account is reducing the supplies overseas.

This was dire news for the Obama administration that in 2010 and for the foreseeable future will be dependent on China to buy U.S. Treasury debt in order to fund the trillion-dollar federal budget deficits projected over the next decade.

The Shanghai Daily reported that Zhu told an academic audience that it was inevitable the value of the dollar would fall in value given the increasing reliance of the Obama administration on issuing U.S. Treasury debt to finance deficit spending. The United States cannot force foreign governments to increase their holdings of Treasuries,' Zhu said. 'Double the holdings? It is definitely impossible.'

Zhu's warning was clear.

'The world does not have so much money to buy more U.S. Treasuries,' he said.

Harder to buy US Treasuries

"IT is getting harder for governments to buy United States Treasuries because the US's shrinking current-account gap is reducing supply of dollars overseas, a Chinese central bank official said yesterday.

The comments by Zhu Min, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, referred to the overall situation globally, not specifically to China, the biggest foreign holder of US government bonds.

Chinese officials generally are very careful about commenting on the dollar and Treasuries, given that so much of its US$2.3 trillion reserves are tied to their value, and markets always watch any such comments closely for signs of any shift in how it manages its assets.

China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange reaffirmed this month that the dollar stands secure as the anchor of the currency reserves it manages, even as the country seeks to diversify its investments.

In a discussion on the global role of the dollar, Zhu told an academic audience that it was inevitable that the dollar would continue to fall in value because Washington continued to issue more Treasuries to finance its deficit spending.

He then addressed where demand for that debt would come from.

'The United States cannot force foreign governments to increase their holdings of Treasuries,' Zhu said, according to an audio recording of his remarks. 'Double the holdings? It is definitely impossible.'

'The US current account deficit is falling as residents' savings increase, so its trade turnover is falling, which means the US is supplying fewer dollars to the rest of the world,' he added. 'The world does not have so much money to buy more US Treasuries.'

China continues to see its foreign exchange reserves grow, albeit at a slower pace than in past years, due to a large trade surplus and inflows of foreign investment. They stood at US$2.3 trillion at the end of September."

Food-Stamp Usage Soars Under Obama

"More than 36 million Americans — one of every eight adults and one of every four children — rely on food stamps in order to eat, and those numbers will likely grow.

“I think the response of the program has been tremendous,” Kevin Concannon, an undersecretary of agriculture, told The New York Times, “but we’re mindful that there are another 15, 16 million who could benefit.”

Government figures show that nationwide, food stamps reach only about two-thirds of those eligible to receive them, with rates ranging from 50 percent of Californians to 98 percent of those who live in Missouri."

Virtually all recipients have incomes near or below the federal poverty line.

While food-stamp use is greatest where poverty runs deep, growth has been especially swift in once-prosperous places hard hit by the housing bust.

The number of recipients has risen by at least two-thirds in 205 U.S. counties, and doubled in about 50 small counties and a dozen sizable ones in the last two years.

That so many Americans are now using food stamps is only one indication that the Obama administration’s economic policies aren’t working, says Howard Schweber, assistant professor of political science and law at the University of Wisconsin.

“The bailout was supposed to get credit flowing again, which was supposed to get small businesses back on their feet, which would then stimulate employment,” Schweber writes in The Huffington Post.

“It didn't work, because that's not what the banks chose to do with the money.”

"GDP Down 6.1%, Reflecting Continuing Economic Woes" -Gimme a big "Doh..".....

Just for kicks, the height of a stack of  only a piddly 1,000,000,000 (one billion) of  nearly worthless one dollar bills measures 358,510 feet or 67.9 miles. And that would only reach from the Earth's surface into the outer layer of the Earth's atmosphere.

That's an awful  lot of dough we can never pay back in even the brightest of projections (outright lies really) so I guess "it's the problem for all the dumb kids to worry about later after we're long gone" they obviously figure on that side of the aisle..

GDP Down 6.1%, Reflecting Continuing Economic Woes 

 CNBC.com: "The U.S. economy contracted at a surprisingly sharp 6.1 percent rate in the first quarter as exports and business inventories plummeted.

The drop in gross domestic product, reported by the Commerce Department on Wednesday, was much steeper than the 4.9 percent annual rate expected by economists and followed a 6.3 percent decline in the fourth quarter.

The dollar issue is bound to surface at the two-day meeting in Pittsburgh as US President Barack Obama and other leaders of the Group of 20 economies debate a new framework for tackling the so called global 'economic imbalances' blamed for fuelling the latest financial crisis."
