That is my take on this what's now become a worldwide story remarkably, all in spite of the other newsworthy things going on in this troubled country of ours and elsewhere. That story is local reporter for WMAQ Channel 5, NBC Chicago's Amy Jacobson and her firing after being videotaped by a competing news station and their spying in wait photographers after being lured to the house of missing mom Lisa Stebic by her slimy husband and his sister, who were supposedly seeking on the record or off the record consultation and providing information regarding this story.
She is a veteran reporter who was sadly duped while letting her guard down just for a couple of minutes. As the video conveniently surfaced she was then basically fired for what the station believes was inappropriate conduct.
My question is when did a news reporter's integrity, conduct and motivation become something that recently has reached holier than thou status where one cannot make a mistake from time to time as she obviously did, as they are humans just like you and I and are not priests or have some extra set of morals and values that the rest of us do not possess.
She was obviously lured into this set up by the husband and sister along with the competing station and their cameras to eliminate Amy from covering the story. Anyone can see that this was the case, anyone. The difference here is really sexist in nature in that she is in a swimsuit which by cleverly editing the tape CBS implies that there is some kind of inappropriate relationship there, where were she in fact wearing instead a t-shirt jeans and or a a halter top there would be no story here as she did nothing wrong.
Look at all the things our journalists do regularly of significance and get away with that actually harm the country as a whole every single day. Much more egregious things than Amy has done here, which is in my eyes nothing but trying to get more information on the fly.
And if this new standard is indeed the case, then somebody better alert the Gray Lady at the New York Times along with a multitude of other US media organizations like ABC, NBC, CNN for instance, also including those that are both fake and accurate, like Dan Rather was at See BS.
Lets not fail to include the others that routinely sell their "journalistic souls" and our overall safety and existence, this while they are secretly meeting and dining ,with mob bosses, drug dealers, murdering terrorists and the likes, all for getting the story.
Meanwhile they gain in the process both hurtful and useful information either to law enforcement often times, and they are also enticed into airing enemy propaganda used against the Bush administration and helpful to the enemies in our war on terror. Essentially, withholding the more useful information or sources translates into many more lost American military and civilian lives while they so often protect their propaganda sources along the way.
All the while blatantly advancing their obvious anti-conservative and anti American agendas, displaying their "the way things outta be in this country of ours" manifesto according to they and their socialist disciples worldview.
Many reporters routinely abuse the first amendment and flout standards in their zeal to get their stories, whereas Amy was not doing either it appears to me on this occasion, and might I add at much less detriment if not zero harm to the entire country as a whole.
Whereas in contrast the actions of the reporters I've explained above do and do it routinely. Their collective transgressions jeopardize our general safety and prosperity as a free nation, one nation that is at war with evil and Radical Islam that by the way attacked us on that September day.... um 9-11 wasn't it?.
So is her appearance at the home of this up until now un-indicted or charged but probably complicit man any different from the TV appearances of say, an ABC reporter by the name of, . one Brian Ross, who proudly produced enemy propaganda at our dinnertimes a few weeks ago accompanied by much patting themselves on the back fanfare.
That was a huge story served to him and ABC on a big silver platter of an Al Queda induction ceremony quite recently, directly from the hands of our enemies to our airwaves courtesy Ross and ABC? Who questions his and their journalistic integrity in this case and their loyalty to ones country over getting the story, no one.
Or what about an American/British CNN reporter sitting in person and alongside an Islamic radical terrorist, who is lining up an American soldier in his sights for assassination .
How about sitting down with America's sworn enemies here and here for starters, like Osama Bin Laden and not identifying his whereabouts which has been done many times prior to 9-11, even once afterwards unbelievably. So the most wanted man in the world can sit down for an interview with that reporter and the reporter is still to be considered even human after opting for putting that story above the apprehension of that guy by revealing his location!!!!!
I went to high school with Amy at John Hersey High in Arlington Heights Illinois and was fortunate to have met her and had admired her for a number of years, sadly last communicating with her earlier in her Channel 5 career back in 1999.
I have closely followed her long and illustrious career in Chicago and I myself have always respected her professional reporting at Channel 5 , and will continue to do so wherever and whenever she happens to end up working next week or sooner, which she will without a doubt.
Particularly as the true facts of this completely explainable situation evolve, which they will, starting right below my comments here is her explanation of the incident in question which I believe without a doubt in my mind that she is forthright and honest about the circumstances.
However she stays professional opting not to blame the Stebics for setting her up as they obviously did, I'm sure in hopes of continuing her work on the story in spite of her firing. A real professional.
Here is Audio Of Amy explaining her actions on WGN radio with Spike O'Dell Wed. am
(10 minutes) which sounded just like any conversation I had with her years ago in the past and she hasn't changed one bit it seems to me and that's a good thing, it's reflective of her personality completely.
More from the Sun Times On AmyAmy's side of the story
Chicago Sun-Times: "EXCLUSIVE: Although she acknowledged a 'lapse in judgment' for going swimming with the estranged husband of a missing Plainfield woman, Amy Jacobson never imagined it would destroy her career as a reporter for WMAQ-Channel 5. 'I'm crushed. I can't lie to you. I'm devastated,' she said in her only interview, just hours after she was fired by the NBC-owned station Tuesday."Although she acknowledged a "lapse in judgment" for going swimming with the estranged husband of a missing Plainfield woman, Amy Jacobson never imagined it would destroy her career as a reporter for WMAQ-Channel 5.
"I'm crushed. I can't lie to you. I'm devastated," she said in her only interview, just hours after she was fired by the NBC-owned station Tuesday.
"I thought they would suspend me and then support me. I can't believe they did this after all I'd done for them. They know why I was there. There was never any challenge as to my motivation or intent," she said.
Larry Wert, president and general manager of Channel 5, declined to discuss why Jacobson was out, calling the matter "a complicated issue" and "a close, tough call." He praised her work as "a valued member of the team for more than 10 years."Terms of her separation agreement are still being negotiated.
What Wert didn't say was that Jacobson had crossed a line in journalistic ethics, appearing to get too close to a source and potentially compromising her professional objectivity. And all of it was captured on videotape by a rival television station. continued
