On the lighter side of life today, this story when completed will sure make one helluva good commercial for the old time kids bathtub favorite; "Rubber duckies that last a lifetime and withstand anything Mother Nature can offer, pass 'em down from generation to generation!!" On sale at Target or Walmart or On Amazon.com today....lol.
I don't know about you all, but all I think of myself when I hear rubber duckie is that good old Bert and Ernie song and routine: Watch The amusing you tube at the bottom of the story
Thousands of rubber ducks to land on British shores after 15 year journeyWhat an amazing unintended scientific boon that turned out to be . But to me I find it amazing it took many of them 15 years to get where they've gotten without washing ashore somewhere, although they were stuck in an ice formation I guess and did land in Hawaii briefly as well as other assorted places here and there according to the second half of the story.
the Daily Mail: "They were toys destined only to bob up and down in nothing bigger than a child's bath - but so far they have floated halfway around the world.
The armada of 29,000 plastic yellow ducks, blue turtles and green frogs broke free from a cargo ship 15 years ago.
Since then they have traveled 17,000 miles, floating over the site where the Titanic sank, landing in Hawaii and even spending years frozen in an Arctic ice pack.
And now they are heading straight for Britain. At some point this summer they are expected to be spotted on beaches in South-West England.
While the ducks are undoubtedly a loss to the bath-time fun of thousands of children, their adventures at sea have proved an invaluable aid to science." continued
Then I also wonder if the company that lost them back in '91 gets to reclaim 'em and put up for sale on ebay or at flea markets, somewhere to get their money back....
