Four Suburban Officials Busted in Corruption Probe "Operation Cookie Jar" ( plus the slideshow of scum)

Today these four fat wallet-ed politico's here were busted in an operation (get this now) called "Operation Cookie Jar". It's like they do these 'made for the blogs and TV" roundups to show they're doing something about the corruption yet they're like the equivalent of the Fox guarding AND living in the henhouse.

The people ordering these things are about as crooked as the people they're being ordered on and against. In fact for all we really know they could all just be people that fall on the mayor's bad side and he sets 'em up and knocks 'em down before they get to him.

Four Suburban Officials Busted in Corruption Probe | NBC Chicago

A group of suburban public servants were arrested Tuesday in a corruption probe looking allegations they profited from their positions.

At least one of the men busted in “Operation Cookie Jar,” a former treasurer for a suburban park district, set up a company in which he made payments to himself.

"The problem of corruption imposes a hidden cost on the hard working taxpayer of this county," said Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez in announcing the arrests.

GOP challenges send health bill back to House For Another Vote

Nothing really to see here as this is due to a violation of budget rules which I personally can't figure out what difference it makes since the entire process has broken every rule of decency and honor since this whole ObamaCare circus began going back to before the election.

GOP challenges send health bill back to House

washingtonpost.com: "Senate Republicans have successfully identified two minor violations of reconciliation rules in the final piece of the health package, according to aides from both parties."

The violations will force the Senate to change the bill and ship it back to the House for final passage. But Democratic leaders said the provisions that will be struck from the part of the bill dealing with Pell Grants for college students do not significantly affect the student loan program or the health care bill overall. 

The corrected legislation most likely will not be subjected to additional challenges when it is sent back to the House, Democratic staffers said, and is expected to receive final approval in the House before the weekend.

"The parliamentarian struck two minor provisions tonight from in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act. But this bill's passage in the Senate is a big win for the American people," said Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. 

Wednesday afternoon and evening and into Thursday morning, Senate Republicans offered dozens of amendments to the bill President Obama signed into law Tuesday . Their goal was to force the legislation that will launch an overhaul of the nation's health-care system. back to the House for another vote. But when the Senate began voting on the amendments shortly after 5 p.m., each proposal was easily rejected.

On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”

The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.”

I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill.

In other words, the bill spends two pages describing would could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.)

Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu.

House passes health care reform bill - CNN.com: "Washington (CNN) -- The House of Representatives on Saturday night passed a sweeping health care bill by a vote of 220-215.

With the passage of H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, proponents of health care reform took an important step forward, but turning the bill into law remains uncertain.

It's unclear when the Senate will vote on a version of the health care legislation debated in that chamber. If the Senate passes its bill, the House and Senate bills would have to be reconciled into one document and voted on again.

The House Democrats needed 218 votes to ensure passage of the bill. On Saturday, it appeared the vote would come down to the wire, as the intentions of some conservative Democrats remained unknown.

In the final tally, 219 Democrats voted for the legislation, and 39 voted against it."

Congress's Travel 50% Jump Since Crooked Democrats took control of Congress two years ago.

This travel report and the numbers it presents speak loud and clear for themselves, quite simply our congressional leaders are using our tax dollars to fund extravagent travel all around the world at a time when the people are being forced into food lines and other unheard of sacrifices in the modern era, all due to democrats causing a nationwide housing meltdown that in turn caused a worldwide banking meltdown.

Congress's Travel Tab Swells - WSJ.com: "WASHINGTON -- Spending by lawmakers on taxpayer-financed trips abroad has risen sharply in recent years, a Wall Street Journal analysis of travel records shows, involving everything from war-zone visits to trips to exotic spots such as the Galápagos Islands.

The spending on overseas travel is up almost tenfold since 1995, and has nearly tripled since 2001, according to the Journal analysis of 60,000 travel records. Hundreds of lawmakers traveled overseas in 2008 at a cost of about $13 million. That's a 50% jump since Democrats took control of Congress two years ago.


The cost of so-called congressional delegations, known among lawmakers as 'codels,' has risen nearly 70% since 2005, when an influence-peddling scandal led to a ban on travel funded by lobbyists, according to the data."

Lawmakers say that the trips are a good use of government funds because they allow members of Congress and their staff members to learn more about the world, inspect U.S. assets abroad and forge better working relationships with each other. The travel, for example, includes official visits to American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Journal analysis, based on information published in the Congressional Record, also shows that taxpayer-funded travel is a big and growing perk for lawmakers and their families. Some members of Congress have complained in recent months about chief executives of bailed-out banks, insurance companies and car makers who sponsored corporate trips to resorts or used corporate jets for their own travel.

Although complete travel records aren't yet available for 2009, it appears that such costs continue to rise. The Journal analysis shows that the government has picked up the tab for travel to destinations such as Jamaica, the Virgin Islands and Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

Lawmakers frequently bring along spouses on congressional trips. If they take commercial flights, they have to buy tickets for spouses. If they fly on government planes -- as they usually do -- their spouses can fly free.

Paris Air Show

In mid-June, Sen. Daniel Inouye (D., Hawaii) led a group of a half-dozen senators and their spouses on a four-day trip to France for the biennial Paris Air Show. An itinerary for the event shows that lawmakers flew on the Air Force's version of the Boeing 737, which costs $5,700 an hour to operate. They stayed at the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand Hotel, which advertises rooms from $460 a night.

The lawmakers were invited to a dinner party at the U.S. Embassy and had cocktails at a private party at the Eiffel Tower. Mr. Inouye attended a dinner sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association, a U.S. trade group. Another senator on the trip, Alabama Republican Sen. Richard Shelby, took a cruise on the River Seine with defense-industry executives and elected officials from Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.

Looks Like Public Opinion Can Still Affect Some Change Even If Obama Isn't

The congressional sideshow to deflect anger away from themselves towards the embattled executives at AIG has worked as planned as the executives return 50 mil worth of bonuses which amount to a paltry 3/10ths of 1% of the entire AIG bailout!

3 freaking tenths of one percent of the money was what congress whipped up their mostly left wing fans to demand returned back to the taxpayers. Woowee what an accomplishment, now if we could get that sam anger directed towards congress we'd get somewhere.

By the way AIG execs informed congress of these bonuses and TurboTax Tim has been involved in their existence and creation for over a year now.

So now that this situation has been diffused (as far as congress thinks and hopes), America should now turn their ire inward towards congressional charlatans and demand hearings so Americans can file in to one of these chambers made so famous by Barney and Friends and take to browbeating these crooks and liars for a few weeks to extract exactly what they knew about all this and when they knew it. And that should also include the Messiah himself who also voted for the original bailout as a senator (at least in name only as he mostly was)

Then, we can ask them to return any bonuses and pay increases which they ironically just happened to give themselves in the midst of this self created crisis and smokescreen, and see how they feel taking what they dish out to others so willingly and disingenuously.

Congress's latest pay raise of $4,700 took effect in January and brought congressional salaries to $174,000. I say they should return every dime of that money since they think everyone else who works on the taxpayers dime as they do should be subjected to pay raises linked to their performance as we know their performances have sucked the big Barney.

AIG Employees Will Return About $50 Million of Bonuses

- WSJ.com: New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said late Monday that 15 of the top 20 recipients of $165 million in retention bonuses from American International Group Inc.'s Financial Products unit have agreed to give back their bonuses -- amounting to in excess of $30 million in cash.

Mr. Cuomo's office said, in all, AIG FP employees agreed to return about $50 million in bonuses thus far.

"I applaud all the AIG employees that are returning the bonuses," said Mr. Cuomo, though he acknowledged that, for some, returning the bonus was more a response to public outrage than atoning for a sin. He said many employees "had nothing to do with the meltdown in the financial products division," but were trying to "do the right thing."

Mr. Cuomo added that doesn't intend to reveal names of people who return bonuses, but maintained he hadn't decided whether to disclose those who keep them.

AIG said it is "deeply gratified that a vast majority of FP's senior leadership have expressed a willingness to forsake their recent retention payments," adding the company continues to "review the responses of our other FP employees."

It remains to be seen whether the givebacks will be enough to help Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner put the matter behind him. He is expected to testify before Congress on Tuesday, and the bonus controversy has ensnared him as he's tried to get his financial rescue plans off the ground.

Some people at the unit -- fewer than 20 -- resigned, according to a person familiar with the matter. A spokeswoman said despite a handful of resignations among senior executives, the company believes "this situation is manageable."

Many waited until the last minute Monday before signaling their decision; emails flooded in as 5 p.m. approached, but others had yet to respond by then. One concern is potential tax implications of returning money received.
