But this man's grace and class as an ambassador of the NBA and as an American icon of the true old fashioned type is unmatched, an old school role model whom one could say "I hope my son turns out as fine as this man has". A real class act all the way around in the era of fallen stars and undeserved, manufactured fleeting fame, perhaps his one or two chinks in his seemingly impervious armor might be his failed marriage and his little gambling issues from time to time.
But he's only human in off the basketball court, as a near billionaire he can well afford to take the gambles he does financially, so who are we to judge what he does with his money and spare time?
Another testament to his dream like accomplishments is the new found success of his son Marcus, who is following in his father's footsteps here in Chicago, having just led his high school basketball team to the state championship here in Illinois as a student at the world renowned Chicago Whitney Young High just weeks ago, where Jordan could be found at the game in the stands like a regular joe crying after witnessing his son's accomplishment and performance.
Students and fans of Jordan will recall that Michael himself was not good enough to make his high school team at the outset, the driving force behind his pathological success he's maintained over the years going from UNC University star on to NBA six time world champion and Olympic Dream Team Champ on to regular old dad
So seeing his son surpass his father's achievements at that age are the stuff fathers dreams are made of. And I'm sure it's tough playing in your father's footsteps as he is and he's sure handling it like a son of Michael Jordan would.
Just like he did under the raising and tutelage of the best parents any man or woman could hope for, role models themselves in the Cosby show vein except for real in the real world. Jordan of coarse most will remember lost his beloved father to a botched robbery by a fellow black man and his white scum accomplice as his father slept on the side of a hometown North Carolina roadside being murdered senselessly by the two lowlifes mentioned above.
Congratulations to Michael on his, what, uh 30,000th award he's received although this I'm sure he would say is right up there at the top with those coveted Bulls championships that Chicagoans like me will remember for a lifetime.
Michael Jordan elected to basketball hall of fame -
- chicagotribune.com: "DETROIT - Michael Jordan accepted a Hall of Fame jersey, looked at former competitors John Stockton and David Robinson and threatened to make another comeback.
'Every time I see these guys, I want to put my shorts on,' Jordan said.
The former Bulls great was elected to the 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame class along with Robinson, Stockton and his coach in Utah, Jerry Sloan. Rutgers women's coach C. Vivian Stringer was also elected.
As remarkable as Jordan's career was – a five-time MVP who won six NBA titles – he said this day was one he never imagined."
