Strange to say the least. Or a clever publicity stunt as a musician myself I've never heard one single person debate whether or not this woman was Jewish, Black, Caucasian or whatever she's trying to prove, not one single word or story of such can be located...However this morning for some reason the CBS Sunday Morning show decided to present a piece that focused on this claim with a story revolving around her that's generating much interest on the net this morning: Here's the promo for this morning's show:
"She was one of the bright new talents of the 1970s: her first hit song, "Poetry Man," sailed into the top 10, and she was on the cover of Rolling Stone, heralded as one of the great singing voices of her generation. But the story of Phoebe Snow’s life turned out not to revolve around hit songs.
Apparently one of these "whatever happened to so and so"... now we know...
'Poetry Man' Singer Phoebe Snow to take DNA Test To Prove Her Ethnicity:
SheWired.com - "Singer Phoebe Snow, a New Jersey native, was recently named one of that state's great black musicians by a local magazine and she has decided to take a DNA test to prove her ethnicity once and for all.
The 57-year-old bluesy folk songstress best known for her seventies classic 'Poetry Man,' was named along with Stevie Wonder, George Benson and Sean 'Diddy' Combs as one of the state's 'black music industry greats.'
Snow, who is Jewish, says she's always faced questions about her ethnicity. Regarding the article, she recently told PageSix, 'I was peeing in my pants laughing (at the magazine). I was like, this is fantastic to be in such great company.'
While she's flattered, Snow has determined it's time to put the question of her ethnicity to rest the scientific way.
'Believe me, people have been asking me about this since I started in the recording industry,' Snow said. 'My mom was the whitest, alabaster-skinned person you can imagine, but who knows what went on four generations ago? So this mitochondrial DNA test should settle it.'"
