I'm certainly not naive enough to think this is the first and only accusation of this type or that many have not gotten away with these activities in the past in probably all sports. Thankfully as far I'm concerned, in today's 24 hour "eyes on everything, big brother like environment, getting away with criminal activity in all walks of life is getting harder and harder, a very good thing in my eyes.Nothing's changed, and this guy is probably telling half the truth and lying about the other half to save his sorry ass from becoming some prison basketball team cheerleader is my latest feeling on this scandal.
I gave upon the NBA post Michael Jordan, and it will be a cold day in **** before I ever return as a fan, particularly now that a ref is accused of fixing games. This is something I'm sure will spread to other officials and even some players before this is over, you mark my word.
And that's one bet you can lay down the farm on for sure.
Everyone's innocent until proven guilty of coarse, but if the FBI is announcing this you can rest assured there's fire where this smoke is coming from. This btw would be the first time an official and organized crime are implicated in professional sports game manipulation by the way. Big scandal brewing here and this guy will bring lots of people down with him you can bet......... chicagoray's blog 2007
Here's a little animation I made up for the last story a year ago that is still pertinent as far as I'm concerned with professional basketball and it's bling bling thug rapper culture members of today. You can have it all, you need baby. Not for me, thank you..
"The Tim Donaghy scandal just got more serious.
FOX Sports on MSN - NBA -: The disgraced former NBA referee told authorities in a four-page letter released Tuesday that two officials conspired to fix the outcome of a 2002 playoff series and influenced several other post- and regular-season games.
The fix is in?
Tim Donaghy did not mention which series in 2002 was fixed, but the Lakers-Kings Western Conference finals was the only series that fits his allegations. A statistical look at Game 6:
Stat
Court documents filed by Donaghy's lawyer detailed the 'inner-workings' of a plot in which top league executives used referees to manipulate the games. Donaghy claims two referees were 'company men' whose job was to extend a playoff series in 2002 to a seventh game.
The documents did not name the series, but the Lakers-Kings Western Conference finals was the only series in 2002 that went to a seventh game, with the Lakers winning both Game 6 and 7 to reach the NBA Finals."Personal fouls (resulting in obviously injured players) were ignored even when they occurred in full view of the referees," the document says of the unnamed series. "Conversely, the referees called made-up fouls on Team 5 in order to give additional free throw opportunities to Team 6."
Two players from Team 5 fouled out in the game, the document said, and the "referees' favoring of Team 6 led to that team's victory that night." Team 6 also went on to win Game 7 of the series, according to the document.
NBA commissioner David Stern flatly denied the allegations Tuesday, dismissing Donaghy's allegations as a despearte attempt to ease his sentence.
"My reaction to Donaghy's lawyer is that clearly as the date of sentencing gets closer and the things he's thrown against the wall haven't stuck, he's rehashing a variety of things that have been given to the FBI, have been investigated and are baseless," Stern told reporters.
"He's a singing, cooperating witness trying to get as light a sentence as he can." continued here
Yes and no, as I'm inclined to believe much of his story with the glaring exception of Phil Jackson being involved in any way whatsoever. Watched the Bulls play and practice for a decade of the best basketball ever played in the history of basketball, and Jackson with Jordan in the house didn't need anyones help.
Even though Jordan is a gambling fool now, in those days he was still becoming the man, myth and legend that he is, so he was clean as a whistle in this town you can bet or they would've hung him dry back then. He's too straight of an arrow unless he fell for the bling bling world out in LA, which is entirely possible as many do fall under the spell of the lunatics when they head west out there to Hollywood.
But Chicago isn't exactly chopped liver so that scene was really nothing new to him after being around Jordan for 10 years.
The players of today are another story entirely, and I wouldn't put it past many of them to be on the take in one way or another, as that would go right along with the rapping, tattoo wearing"I'm a thug" culture that the league loves so much and promotes. Coming home to roost it looks like to me after letting the insane run the asylum ever since Jordan, Magic and Bird left the scene it's been all downhill and fast culture wise, just like the country and it's spiraling downward culture for that matter.
