Next thing they'll want is for this day to be turned into a holiday to be called "Independence From the Gringo" day or something to that effect after they get their long awaited comprehensive immigration reform AMNESTY from the bleeding heart liberal congress that's now running the circus in Washington.
There weren't the large numbers of lawbreaking illegals rampaging up and down the streets of America that there were last year according to most reports with the glaring exception of what used to be Chicago. My assumption like many others is that most figure they've already won this battle, coupled with anxiety and being afraid of getting arrested or fired from their jobs as many did last year when they participated in the first disruptive rallies.
There was quite a mob scene here in the city I'm embarrassed to report although the 150,000 figure is quite high based on the many comparable city functions in the past in Grant Park that didn't have political ramifications and therefore were more accurately counted and reported than was this JulioFest.
Read what many other Chicagoans had to say about the marches yesterday right here.
In addition the raids that took place last week that we reported about here gave many just another excuse to come out and cause disruption and mayhem to the city streets while the rest of the city and it's legal population worked.
All in all there was plenty of mild violence, lots of anti American rhetoric, burning effigies here in Chicago of boots and guns with soldiers helmets atop them (like the memorials that soldiers often use to honor their fallen in the field ) the word was here on some local radio stations.
Although I have been unable to locate any visual proof of this I have no problem believing it. I do know that the statue of liberty pictured below was later burned in Grant Park according to news reports on NBC5 our local affiliate. Notice it is strapped to a cross as well. This is not exactly an "I love America" kind of statement now is it?
In addition to that my brother and another friend who both work down in the loop reported to me last night seeing many of these flags stuffed in bags and newspapers in garbage cans on the Metra platforms during his trip back to his home in North Shore Winnetka yesterday as well.
