It sure is an amazing world we live in where a society that was lost in time gets "awakened" after centuries of oppression and war, and as a group of people are more like living replicas of the Flintstones than anything else who are remarkably now walking around with cell phones and other futuristic high technological advances yet still living in caves and huts and riding donkeys and camels. (not all of them of coarse but many)
And with such primitive societies utilizing these (to them) strange new advances come some very interesting side effects of their usage, but the rumor being spread among Afghani's this past week related to cell phone usage are not one of them. That they as a people would believe such nonsense makes us understand why they also believe anything and everything the Taliban warlords or Al Queda terrorists tell them and not what we are trying to teach them, about moving into the 21st century and that we are there to help them and not hurt them.

The story below along those lines reminds me of a the late Phil Hartman and a character on SNL where he played a newly unfrozen & awoken caveman who is suddenly thrust into this strange new advanced world, being resurrected only to become a lawyer who uses this bio as a jury sympathy ploy while in court and elsewhere. If you remember this what I thought was a hilarious skit at first then you'll know what I mean by the comparisons. If not the story is pretty funny on it's own merits.
Deadly virus phone rumors frighten Afghans
Health Reuters.com: "KABUL (Reuters) - rumors swept through Afghanistan on Monday that a deadly virus was being spread by mobile telephone calls, and government officials scrambled to reassure the public the talk was rubbish.
Many worried Afghan mobile phone users called family and friends, warning them not to answer calls from strange numbers. Some people said they had heard that several people had been killed by the mystery virus in Kabul at the weekend.
'Don't answer any strange number because it contains a virus that will kill you,' said Ahmad Fawad, a shop owner in Kabul.
The rumors appear to have spread from neighboring Pakistan where last week a similar scare frightened countless mobile phone users"Officials from the Afghan interior, communications and health ministries appeared on television and said the talk was baseless.
