Particularly the old and or disabled life can be, or end up as a terribly lonely experience as the story below demonstrates.
How sad it is that any one individual on the planet, much less a country like this, can be so forgotten and removed from society for this to even occur is practically unbelievable to me.

Even if he was a single, widowed Herman Munster for Gods sake I woulda knocked on the guys door or called somebody.
Wouldn't an unkept yard with no garbage being brought out to the curb and such attract someones attention. In America just ten- fifteen years ago, when everone knew everyone in each of their communities, this would never have happened, never.
Pretty disconnected we sure are from one another in probably the easiest time ever in history of mankind to meet and communicate with other people.
Pretty sad stuff.

Mummified body found in front of blaring TVDo people go about their business so oblivious to all others that the mailman, the neighbor(s), anybody couldn't check to see if anything was wrong at this residence? Obviously the man had no family as well. This wouldn't have been the case if this poor guy lived next to me or my neighbors, I know that much.
US News | Reuters.com: "NEW YORK (Reuters) - Police called to a Long Island man's house discovered the mummified remains of the resident, dead for more than a year, sitting in front of a blaring television set.
The 70-year-old Hampton Bays, New York, resident, identified as Vincenzo Ricardo, appeared to have died of natural causes. Police said on Saturday his body was discovered on Thursday when they were called to the house over a burst water pipe.
'You could see his face. He still had hair on his head,' Newsday quoted morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus as saying. The home's low humidity had preserved the body."
