DT/DE Jarron Gilbert, San Jose State
Third round, 68th overall
Height/weight: 6-5, 288.
Strengths: He possesses rare athleticism for his size with explosiveness and long arms that help him bat down passes. Made NCAA-best 22 tackles for a loss in 2008. Ran a 4.81-second 40 and has squatted 635 pounds.
How he fits: Similar to Israel Idonije, Gilbert figures to add insurance and depth at a defensive end position that has three players entering the final years of their contracts, but Bears GM Jerry Angelo likes him better inside. That means he could make Dusty Dvoracek expendable or guard against Tommie Harris' iffy knees.
What they're saying: "We really didn't expect him to be there. Maybe he isn't the 100 percent prototype for defensive lineman but … he's just got rare athleticism.''- -Angelo
Weaknesses: He wasn't the most consistent player before a breakout senior season.

That's one strong mofo, and I've seen it all, having personally watched my once old time neighbor as an Arlington Heights kid in the late 70's, the late great Walter Payton train on his famous & treacherous Buffalo Grove/Arlington Heights Payton's hill. That hill that he famously ran up and down to cultivate those monster legs that drove him to the NFL all time rushing record. Here's Walter on that very hill back in the day of real men.
He once led our old Hersey High Huskies football team up and down this hill in 1980 and it was only doable for myself up and down twice as a strong young 16 year old...As a now crippled man from MS for the past 4 years that was one moment I forever cherish and is one thing I know everything about, leg strength and the lack of it, believe you me.
Not to mention also seeing the Bears at the time new D Tackle William "Refrigerator" Perry stand on the ground and jump up with both feet onto a waist high table when he was drafted back in 1985, and that feat above ranks right up there with these two legendary Bears, unbelievable leg strength.

Thanks Ray. Like I said to Father Gregori: "Thank you for your support Father. While some shy away from confrontation, I take it on so some people let me hang alone, but I can always count on you and Chicago Ray. Thank you."
