We sure are praying for these poor folks' families this morning including a family of a 911 widow on board this plane and the equally unlucky homeowners of this tragedy. What a terrible shame and especially after the heroics of captain Chesley Sullenberger a couple weeks ago saving untold lives, sadly today these folks just were not as lucky..

Beverly Eckert, widow of a 9-11 victim, was one of the 48 passengers aboard Flight 3407 that crashed into a home near Buffalo, N.Y., a family member confirmed.

Continental Airlines Express Flight 3407 crashed into a home approximately 20 miles outside of Buffalo late Thursday night, killing all 48 people onboard and one on the ground, the New York State Police has confirmed.

Authorities said the plane, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 turboprop, was operated by Manassas, Va.-based Colgan Air. It was en route from Newark, N.J. to Buffalo when it went down in a residential area at approximately 10:20 p.m.

It was the first fatal crash of a commercial airliner in the United States since Aug. 27, 2006, when 49 people were killed after a Comair jetliner took off from a Lexington, Ky., runway that was too short.

"The whole sky was lit up orange," Bob Dworak, who lives less than a mile from the crash site, told The Associated Press. He said that residents of the neighborhood, about 10 miles from the Buffalo airport, were used to planes rumbling overhead, but he took note Thursday night when one sounded louder than usual and made some odd noises. continued
