And that preparation is sadly including massive job cuts as companies prepare to carry less inventory and slow production while the country's bailed out banks hoard the money we've borrowed them in order for them to borrow back to us, which they're not doing because Americans are not spending because they can't borrow the money.
So round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows!.
Harley Davidson just celebrated their 100 year Anniversary through 2008, so let's hope it's another 100 years for the all American motorcycle giant after these pretty sizable job cuts due to decreased production. However that could be difficult as this business model unfortunately shares some of the same difficulties that the Big 3 face, yet they aren't lined up at the breadline with their hands out looking for a handout like GM, Chrysler and soon Ford are doing.
So for that very reason, I have more respect for their organization as a whole from top management to the bottom workers :( as they are true victims of the worsening economy, as opposed to greedy unions and bad management like the automakers who are essentially using the bad economy as a shield for bad management and unsustainable deals made with their unions and cover for Obama who promised these unions big payoffs for votes..
One of the worst deals made Unions were the job banks that the UAW has finally agreed to shut down in Chrysler effective the 26th, and is expected to be forced to do the same at Ford and GM particularly to stay in line with Uncle Sam demands for them to shape up by February or lose the low interest loans being extended to them by the government with our money. H-D Cuts Include 640 Local Jobs
| Newsradio 620 - "The current economic conditions are hitting Harley-Davidson hard, and its decreased production of Harley-riders' beloved 'HOG's' is forcing it to cut hundreds of jobs in Milwaukee.
Harley-Davidson is cutting 1,100 employees across its company in a cost-cutting move, with 640 cuts coming in the Milwaukee area.
800 of those jobs will be hourly production jobs. 300 are salaried, non-production jobs. The company says that some of the cuts will happen 'sooner rather than later.'
The company says it will reduce motorcycle production in 2009." continued
