Wednesday's Heroes

Welcome to this week's installment where all the member bloggers of "Wednesdays Hero", found in my sidebar and theirs collectively honor many of the real hero's found in this country who's names and bio's have been provided to us for these humble tributes by blogroll creators Indian Chris @ Right Wing and Right Minded along with partner HooahWife.

Many of our soldiers are those that have paid the ultimate price for this country, protecting it both at home and abroad from the many threats we face from our enemies wishing us and them harm, and some are not. In either case they are the real American heroes of today and we now both salute and offer our prayers to both them and their loved ones.

To join us if you wish to please start by reading the post below. and consider visiting a sponsor of mine and longtime favorite charity Toys For Tots below. I thank you, the Marines thank you and many toyless and joyless children will thank you too.

Today we salute:
Spc. Matthew T. Morris
23 years old from Cedar Park, Texas
2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment
April 06, 2008
"He was a very creative kid, and when he wasn't in a challenging environment, he tried to make life interesting," Glenn Morris, father of Spc. Morris, said. "He excelled in a military school structure and in a team environment."

Before enlisting in the Army in 2005, Morris attended the Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia where he met a history teacher who inspired him to want to become an educator. "After his service, he wanted to go back to school and get a four-year degree to become a teacher," said his mother, Lisa. "He wanted to make a difference and give back to the community."

Spc. Morris was killed when his vehicle encountered an IED in Balad, Iraq. Also killed in the attack was Cpt. Ulises Burgos-Cruz.

May this soldier and all other lost veterans of America's fine military rest in eternal peace with our eternal gratitude. Chicago Ray

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

This post is part of the Wednesday Hero Blogroll. For more information about Wednesday Hero, or if you would like to post it on your site, you can go here.
I would also like to pay tribute to another fine soldier, this one a disabled woman featured in a Texas paper and website few days ago. A person whom many an American can draw some hope and inspiration from who fights each and every day with no arms, thanks to serving we the American people over in Iraq.

Over there killing Muslim terrorists in their own backyards as opposed to the streets of American cities which liberals would apparently prefer judging by their hatred for the Iraq war and many of it's veterans like this woman and the man above who come back injured, incapacitated or God forbid dead fighting for our freedom and the freedom of Iraqi's who've NEVER tasted it until today thanks to these men and women.
Left armless, female Iraq veteran doesn't dwell on what she has lost

| State | Star-Telegram.com: "SAN ANTONIO — Mary Dague hears the catty whispers sometimes. 'So ugly,' the strangers say when they think she can’t hear.

The 24-year-old has bright green eyes, a quick smile, and on the days she gets her husband’s help, perfectly applied mascara and blush.

But all the gawkers really see are her arms, each amputated above the elbow.

What they don’t suppose — with no fatigues or standard-issue Army T-shirt to clue them in — is that this chatty young woman, who likes to wear a little black dress to fancy parties as much as the next girl, is an Army sergeant whose arms were blown off as she dismantled a bomb in Iraq. She was awarded a Purple Heart.

In uniform, she’s often recognized as a wounded veteran and thanked for her service. Out of uniform, she pretends not to hear the careless whispers.

'At first, it kind of hurts, and then, it makes you sad,' she said.

Sad not for herself, but for those she sees wasting their youth and opportunities.

'I’m 24, and I feel like I’ve lived a full, happy life already,' she said.

It’s a life forever marred by an accident that has made even the simplest task a struggle, and rehabilitation is slow. But she’s eagerly looking beyond it, to the day she gets a sophisticated prosthetic arm, and beyond that, to a time when she’s self-sufficient. continued
