In particular it's the Minnesota Guardsmen , who are coming back to find out that their tours, the longest by far in Iraq were written for 729 days instead of 730. It's a seemingly minuscule 1 day discrepancy which has a major impact, entitling them to a large increase in their benefits due, which many had already spent in anticipation of their receipt I'm sure.
So once the bureaucratic cages are rattled like they are being now you can bet, I'm sure that this egregious error will be reconciled and they will receive their due. That of coarse is the greater amount they are entitled to, and then the explanation that this was just a strange & coincidental (although a colossally stupid) error that will be fixed immediately if not sooner.
If not, this government will then deservedly have a future recruiting dilemma on their hands and a lowering of military morale never seen before that will shake the republic and Washington to the core once word gets out. Word that our American soldiers were shafted in such a low grade 3rd world way intentionally by our political stooges that is.
Then they, (the politicians in Washington from top to bottom not the military) will also lose my support and millions more I'm sure who are still backing them for this war effort, and putting into jeopardy any future endeavors putting these brave men and women in harms way ( like Iran for instance) for anyone or any place outside of this country.
That would remain my opninion at least until the best soldiers in the world are then treated as the absolute best, and nothing less for the invaluable and nearly priceless work in which they already are terribly underpaid for in my opinion, and that of most other non liberals as well.
In fact, going even a step further, I believe all their salaries should be doubled from their present levels whenever they are placed in combat..... doubled. Period and end of story.
National Guard Troops Denied Benefits After Longest Deployment Of Iraq War:
WCSH6.com - "MINNEAPOLIS, MN (NBC) -- When they came home from Iraq, 2,600 members of the Minnesota National Guard had been deployed longer than any other ground combat unit. The tour lasted 22 months and had been extended as part of President Bush's surge. MaineMoms.com 1st Lt. Jon Anderson said he never expected to come home to this: A government refusing to pay education benefits he says he should have earned under the GI bill." continued
