If I don't sound too thrilled that would be because over my 42 years, 12 as a player 3rd grade through high school and nearly lifelong fan, the Cubs have bitten the city and it's fans way too many times. And for me, the last year I really followed the Cubs over the entire summer was a couple back when they came 5 outs from the World Series and blew it.
That was 2003, the year of Bartman Ball fiasco, which all revolves around the perpetual BillyGoat curse and all that other crap. They just blew it after that play, simple as that, but Steve Bartman certainly didn't help them and us any that night..
After that colossal collapse I had finally had enough and have refused to jump back on the bandwagon since and won't do it this year even now. I certainly hope the Cubs continue on to the World Series, the last one was 1945, last win 1908,as we know them stats along with some other sad ones pretty good here in this city I'm afraid.
The White Sox surprisingly pulled a huge one finally for the city a few years back in 2005, but to describe these following years as a monumental failure would be kind, like 24 games back today.
Nothing however would compare with a Cubs World Series Victory in this city, possibly even the Bears 85 Super Bowl win, (possibly, although the Bears whole season that year was unmatchable in exitement), and that's why it won't happen this time, as if it does then the world must end, and it doesn't seem like this is the year for that yet. They've basically played decently for most of the year from what I've seen and seem to be the lesser of the evils in this division basically. Hardly any standouts that most outside of Chicago would know.
We're close but not there yet.
That will occur next year if Hillary is elected president, that my friends will be the Cubs year and the end to all ends for civilization, not this October.
So, I'll be watching them as a Chicagoan in the coming weeks but from a safe distance, physically & emotionally.

Finally, the Red-letter day
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Cubs: "CINCINNATI — After four months of clawing out, crawling back and maybe even fighting off a little history near the end, the Cubs finally popped their cork Friday night in Cincinnati. And as if to underscore the nature of the National League Central race this season, the Cubs had to wait an hour after their 6-0 victory against the Reds at Great American Ball Park to clinch when the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the San Diego Padres." continued
• Full Court Press: Cubs clinch!
• Leadoff dinger a real blast
• Blanco likely odd man out in playoffs
• Wild in Wrigleyville: Cubs' fans party
From the last week of the season
