With the filing of this ridiculous lawsuit the player in question is now asking society to reimburse her and who else for pain and grief caused by words and free speech.
Any respect I had for those women even as a supporter of Don Imus has completely gone out the window as they prove it wasn't about race or dignity but about the money. Show me the money and you can bet Al's hands are getting greased and juiced somewhere in there.
Rutgers Player Sues Imus, NBC, CBS:
ABC News: "Don Imus is facing his first lawsuit from a player on the Rutgers Women's Basketball team for derogatory comments that cost him his job as a radio host in April, ABC News has learned."
Interesting how the article's first line by referring to "his first lawsuit" implies this one won't be the last in a line of greedy minority college students looking to cash in their racist lottery tickets at the behest I'm sure of race baiter Reverend Al.
Like I said, someone who may even have a little piece of the action coming from the racial ambulance chasing attorneys that were steered the case by the Rev, betcha a g-note, anyone out there, that is the truth and the whole truth.
Kia Vaughn, star center for the Rutgers Women's Basketball team, has filed a lawsuit against Imus for libel, slander and defamation -- the first civil suit to be filed against the former radio host. Vaughn is asking for monetary damages of an unspecified amount.
Public figures like college basketball players are public figures that are exempt from this frivolous action ...
"This is a lawsuit in order to restore the good name and reputation of my client, Kia Vaughn," said her attorney, Richard Ancowitz, in an exclusive interview with the ABC News Law & Justice Unit.
The suit names Imus individually, but it is also waged against MSNBC, NBC Universal, CBS Radio, CBS Corp., Viacom Inc., Westwood One Radio and Imus producer Bernard McGuirk.
Today's suit refers to terms used by Imus April 4 -- including referring to women on the team as "nappy headed" -- as "debasing, demeaning, humiliating, and denigrating" to Vaughn and her fellow players. "There's no way these bigoted remarks should have seen the light of day," Ancowitz told ABC News. continued
No this lawsuit should never see the light of day for you ambulance chasing, race baiting, money grubbing lawyers .
Read the comments there at ABC to get a flavor of public opinion that surprisingly echoes the sentiments I have here that I also reiterated there;
that these women have now disgraced themselves after taking what many thought was the high ground by accepting his apology and the way they acted, but now can be seen as simply pre-conceived to lay groundwork for this action were his contract to be settled as it has, comments section ABC
