That seemed to be the consensus answer to the questions posed to the people in attendance at Live Earth yesterday, and hopefully there is some public information available on this as there was supposedly an accounting of all this "footprint" nonsense that was supposed to equal out to zero after the shows and was laid out in these regulations that were claimed to have been followed. ( Yeah sure, and Bill Clinton's a great husband, just ask him) .
I'm betting they pay some carbon firm ( like below) to instead plant some trees, which is a great thing to do on regular old normal days, not just to make up for the conspicuous consumption of a days worth of rock concerts to save the world from Global Warming. Hypocrisy at it's best. And just how many trees will it take to offset Saturday according to some scientist who may or may not know what he's talking about either...?

Well, according to this "Carbon Footprint Expert" it goes like this :
John Buckley of Carbon Footprint, an organization that helps companies reduce their carbon dioxide emissions, said Saturday that Live Earth will produce about 74,500 tons of the gas.
"We would have to plant 100,000 trees to offset the effect of Live Earth,"
There you go, 100,000 trees for one days worth of fun for the "save the world" crowd. Talk about treading water or running in place, this day appears that it was an exercise in both.
I have to admit I switched on the program on Bravo 9 or maybe ten times throughout the day and evening and this is no joke, 6 of those times I was greeted with those two "hosts" or whatever they were, interviewing some left wing expert on global warming or green celebrity needing some exposure and getting it there for free.
The three times I didn't see that, I saw 2 acts I never even heard of and the third time I caught the Madonna closing act which was so...well,...Madonna. It was a "we are the world" type song she apparently wrote just for the occasion, which you have to at least give her credit for, so we'll lopp off maybe 5 tonnes of carbon off of her jet fuel bill to get to and from the show, lol. This is her footprint for a regular year:
(whose annual carbon footprint, according to Buckley, is 1,018 tons -- about 92 times the 11 tons an average person uses per year).

Truthfully I think she was already in London to do a show down the street anyways and then again she lives there too, so in trade-off she probably committed less than any other bands there in personal time devoted to the effort, but burned much less carbon today than the others to perform there. Probably why she did it :>).
Isn't is kind of a joke now that we have to judge how green mostly inconsequential (except for entertainment they provide) musical acts and bands are. Like how they get to their shows, toilet paper they flush, foods they eat etc etc? Really, no one should give a damn about these things but that's what happens when you stick their necks and wagging fingers out for a cause and instruct others to do the same, at least it should be that way but isn't we know for most product endorsements, but this is different.
Live Earth London's Glacial Pacing -I like this part of the article, the clueless fans attending and what they know and plan to do after this little fest Saturday for the cause et al..., Check out these clueless clods and some of the answers they give the interviewer for the story right above:
washingtonpost.com: "LONDON, July 7 -- 'If you want to save the planet, I want you to start jumping up and down!' Thus Madonna revealed her plan to combat global warming. Clad in a black satin leotard, she gyrated with dancers and simulated sex with an amplifier and a guitar. Along with the Foo Fighters, the 48-year-old Queen of Pop transformed a Live Earth concert that at times had seemed earnest and slow." continued
"I'm not even sure who Gore is," said Georgie Simpson, 35, from Ipswich, in eastern England. "I saw Gore on TV," added Sue Bourner, 38, a health service manager from Hampshire. "But frankly, I think it's cheeky of Americans to come over here and lecture us. They are the worst polluters."
