It's about time for this gas situation to be examined , and please, no Bush for oil comments or similar conspiracy type conversation, etc etc, they will be deleted. I'm not talking about surcharges for oil companies or other draconian and socialist type measures, just old fashioned "we Americans are sick and tired of this crap type" activism.
This car of mine below when purchased in 2003 cost 19-22 dollars to fill up.... today 39. That car gets 300 miles to the tankful and holds about 12 gallons, about 25mpg which is pretty reasonable.
I'm as you can see a sports car person and not a big fan of trucks and SUV's, and I do understand they certainly have some usefulness for many families on the go and contractors, taxi drivers etc.. However, when I see our highways and byways filled shoulder to shoulder with SUV's containing only one passenger day in and day out around this city and elsewhere, it's no wonder the prices keep going up and up.
And I'm sure although many won't admit it, those who own them are contemplating their disposal themselves as these gas prices become borderline obscene and cost them near a "c note" in some cases to fill up a couple times a month or whatever.
As long as these vehicles remain popular these oil companies will keep trying to rape the consumers as they figure if people keep buying these costly vehicles they must be able to afford to fill em up every other couple of days too. Not to mention the bond traders and speculators who according to many are also responsible for these prices climbing, not just George Bush, and will continue to drive the crude prices up as well for those reasons and others, which mostly are simplly bullsh*&..
One helpful reaction would be the long awaited opening up Anwar and the gulf of Mexico for drilling, which foreign entities are already doing by the way and the left is opposed to as well. China and Cuba are drilling in the gulf but liberals keep the US from doing so. All one can say and must soon agree to is we had better do something, as most individuals cannot afford these climbing prices much longer. They went up 4 cents just overnight here in Chicago.
So anyway, today is supposed to be some kind of "don't fill up your tank day" to try and send a message to the oil companies, but I'm sure that will amount to diddly as Americans will be lined up at the pumps as usual to keep those personal living rooms on wheels rolling from destination to destination. :(
News busters had a commentary a week ago suggesting we do this every 15th of the month and there is an idea that might get the attention of the companies and lawmakers if it could be organized and spread around like has been done with the emails leading up to today's little boycott.
