I'm happy as a resident that Chicago was chosen to represent the US in the Olympic Derby. Now, as I said in the post earlier today, it's on to bribe and kiss-the-a#$ of the IOC adequately enough to get the games here to be chosen above the other international representatives.
I can say this from living here long enough (25 years), that if chosen the layout and plans they have developed do look pretty impressive, and yes, they'll get it done on time. It'll just be at about 20 times the so-far budgeted amount. And yes, we'll be the ones paying that bill (even though they claim otherwise!) , but the infrastructure improvements to the city can last 100 years, so it's worth it in my opinion, but not if the city isn't finally chosen.
Then it will have been a tremendous waste of money developing plans while wining and dining these committees up the ying-yang to just be considered. Gotta pay to play as they say..( Jesse Jackson impression?)

Chicago Tribune: "WASHINGTON -- An effort that came as something of a surprise when it was initiated a year ago produced another surprise Saturday, when Olympic ingnue Chicago beat Games veteran Los Angeles to become the U.S. bid city for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
``We are very grateful the United States Olympic Committee has given us this opportunity,'' Chicago 2016 chairman Patrick Ryan said after the USOC board of directors voted for what could become the first Midwest Olympics since the St. Louis Summer Games of 1904."read more
