I'm not a sports blogger although I enjoy them like most American men as those who read this blog during the football season will attest. I was a big hockey fan for many years particularly in my 20's while co-owning season tickets to the Chicago Blackhawks throughout most of the 90's also enjoying the Bulls Jordan era as a much valued benefit.
I like many eventually grew tired of that old cliche "I went to a brawl and a hockey game broke out" becoming reality and the main attraction for the games. I just didn't see the need for the fights anymore and nights at the "old Chicago Stadium" grew from a tradition of excitement on Wednesday and Sunday nights to downright obnoxiously dangerous on many occasions the older and wiser I became.
As the stadium turned into the United Center, again, the house Jordan built, it changed the game in this city from a regular joe's night out on the town into a rich man's playpen (see for yourself) that me and my associates would not longer support with the exorbitant costs associated with season tickets coupled with the well known greediness and mismanagement of the franchise by Dollar Bill Wirtz over his many years of family ownership of the team. But thats a story for another blog another time.
Here's again is part of the reason why I grew tired of the sport as seen last night in the NHL...
