Coming To Your City and Ours?

I guess the ol' cashflow is running low, as Van Halen's original lineup is reuniting despite years and years of very public acrimony to hit that perverbial cash cow tour awaiting them to grab their slice of the US Rock & Roll reunion tour pie.

As an avid guitar player myself I enjoyed their music in my late teens and early twenties and still do, even seeing them live a few times back then. You can count me as one of the many who never liked their Roth stand-in Sammy Haggar while he was with the band, thus causing me to lose any interest in anything they produced during those years.

I guess with many of these old 70's and 80's bands and people in general for that matter, the lure of all the possible money sure heals lots of wounds, but none of mine will they be receiving this time around, nor will any other so-called "reunion gigs" who are miraculously coming together one more time just for the fans.

The all too common break-up to make up scenario is now just part of the ongoing marketing strategy of how to extract every possible dollar from their fans that they can for as long as they can, staging these acts right down to the very time of the hopeful reunions.

Well, not any more for me thank you very much. I still own Van Halen I and II and that's enough for me.

It would be the latest coup for Palms owner George Maloof, who will open the 2,500-seat venue with a lineup that includes Tool, Evanescence, Gwen Stefani along with Van Halen, all in the first month. Many critics consider Van Halen the greatest party-metal rock band of all time. "more

Rolling Stone Rock And Roll Daily
The reunion that Van Halen fans have been awaiting for twenty-two years began in December, when David Lee Roth walked into Eddie Van Halen’s Hollywood home studio. There he rejoined the band for a rehearsal, singing fourteen Van Halen classics. “They totally got along on a personal level,” a source close to the reunion says. more
