We all had quite an event filled day yesterday here in Chicago as most people who watch and read the news saw for themselves or will hear about today. The kind of events nobody wants or needs, inexplicable rage.
The building in which this mayhem took place, the Landmark Citibank building, is actually built over 1 of Chicago's 2 main Metra Transportation Hubs so it receives an extraordinary amount of people traffic day in and day out like all big city mass transportation depot's I suppose.
I myself used to travel through this building a few years ago on my daily suburb to city commute on the Northwest Metra Rail Line on my way to my old advertising job located in One East Wacker Drive, another Chicago landmark building located on the corner or State and Wacker.
Watching the chaos yesterday brought back many memories, not of the violence but mostly of how brutal the commute was each and every day for 3 years, particularly in these sometimes harsh winters. But I must say was fortunate to never have been witness to the craziness that took place yesterday as a result of the loon on the loose who still remains unidentified as of this post at 5 am saturday, as do his unfortunate victims. Three of which are now dead and one who it appears will thankfully recover from her injuries, at least physically.
This just shows what one single maniac can do to paralyze a big city of law abiding people when they want to, and why our country and it's brave soldiers must continue to battle evil around the world, so our cities don't become centers of mayhem like the few hours Friday here in Chicago, or those forever scarring hours on the morning of 9-11.
As if this wasn't enough for one day, what may have happened had this other lunatic, also from Illinois and arrested very publicly yesterday for terrorist activities been able to follow through on his wannabe jihadder field day, had it not been thawrted by the FBI using some tactics that the newly elected democratic congress will soon want to revoke.
All I can say is thank goodness for our fine law enforcement community and first responders who's sometimes thankless jobs are becoming more and more difficult with each passing day as we all are aware I'm sure.

My Way News - Gunman, 3 Victims Dead in Chicago Tower: "CHICAGO (AP) - A gunman carried a cache of weapons past security in a giant envelope Friday afternoon, chained a law office's doors closed and fatally shot three people before a police sniper killed him as he held a hostage at gunpoint, authorities said.
Officers entered through another door in the U-shaped office, and a SWAT officer shot the gunman from about 45 yards away, Superintendent Phil Cline said.
There was no negotiation and the hostage was unharmed, he said.
The shootings at the 43-story Citigroup Center, which also houses a train station, sent office workers fleeing and stranded rush-hour commuters.
Cline said the gunman, who was armed with a revolver, a knife and hammer, didn't work in the office but demanded to see one of the victims who was killed.
'He was not employed there but we feel he did have previous encounters with the individuals in that office,' Cline said." read more
