Last Night the Bears went to 8-1 taking out their unexpected A%$-whipping last week by the Dolphins on the much more formidable New York Giants, waiting until very late in the 1st half to come out of semi-hibernation however in doing so.
A late score right before halftime led to 21 straight unanswered points giving the Bears some breathing room in the fourth quarter to coast towards their 8th win posting a final score of 38-20. The 2 highlights of the night for myself was seeing QB Rex Grossman return to resembling an NFL quarterback as opposed to the scared squirrel running in circles the we fans and the world witnessed last week against Miami. Listen to his comments on the game.
The other memorable moment for me and many others I'm sure was a record tying 108 yard runback for touchdown by rookie Devin Hester after a very short missed field goal attempt by New York, tying the record by another Bear last year believe that or not, Nathan Vasher. A runback that should not have occurred as he was being told to not take the ball out of the end zone but fortunately for him did so anyway resulting in the record breaking effort.
Here's what Hester had to say (audio) about the play after the game. By the way, this was not even Hester's 1st spectacular return this year, and he's really a cornerback to boot, but he has spent time playing running back and other positions while a standout as a Miami Hurricane.
Another interesting stat gleaned from last night was that this 2006 offensive squad has now outscored the whole total of points accumulated by the offense the whole entire season in 2005. The exact amount is still being verified Monday.
Meanwhile we here in Chicago can get back on the track after wondering whether or not the Bears pretty impressive 7-1 start was a fluke made possible by some lesser opponents within the weak NFC division this year, or an authentic roaring start by a super bowl contending team . I think most folks would agree that the Bears answered that question without a dount as a team last night.
