They, the terrorists, always know that in most cases the well deserved and even telegraphed retaliation will bring in most cases a swift defense for the terrorists and rebuke for the recipients of their attacks from the western media and then the Arab propaganda machine. They then become emboldened and begin to think they are accomplishing something, thereby initiating more terror.
Their eventual destruction may be the only thing in their future they will accomplish if they continue picking fights they can't and won't win.
ISRAEL BLITZES LEB INVADERS By URI DAN "July 13, 2006 -- JERUSALEM - Hezbollah terrorists killed eight Israeli soldiers in Lebanon and kidnapped two others yesterday in what Israeli officials called 'an act of war' as they dispatched warplanes, gunships and ground forces to deliver a swift response.
Early this morning, the Israelis also shelled the runways of the Beirut airport and fired a rocket at Hezbollah's TV station, wounding six people.
An Israeli army spokesman said the airport was targeted because Hezbollah used it to transfer weapons and supplies.
There was no immediate report of casualties at the airport, which was closed.
A Lebanese rocket attack also killed an Israeli woman early this morning inside her home in the northern city of Nahariya.
The attacks came a day after Israeli airstrikes hit a dozen bridges in Lebanon and several suspected Hezbollah positions, killing 22 Lebanese civilians and a Lebanese soldier as well as disrupting communications between Beirut and southern Lebanon.
Israeli artillery fired into the area as well. The military said it attacked 40 targets to stop Hezbollah from moving the kidnapped soldiers."The well-planned cross-border raid by Hezbollah, backed by Iran and Syria, resulted in Israel's highest military death toll in four years.
It came as Israel's two-week offensive in the Gaza Strip claimed the lives of 24 more Palestinians in new attacks.
Hezbollah's leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, boasted of the raid at a Beirut press conference and said the kidnapped soldiers were "in a safe and very distant place" and could not be freed by force.
"No military operation will free them," he said. "What we did today . . . is the only feasible path to free detainees from Israeli jails."
The terrorist action was called "Operation Fulfilling the Promise" - the pledge to free fellow Muslim militants held by Israel, Hezbollah said. It had been in the works for five months, the group added. more
