Plane hits, kills man along Hilton Head, SC, beach

I thought I've had bad luck, not this bad has it ever been.....yet. Can't say I've ever heard of this happening before to a person out jogging at a Hilton Head Spa and health resort to boot. It couldn't of hit a crack dealer or a child molester instead?

My Way News - "HILTON HEAD, S.C. (AP) - A single-engine plane with oil on its windshield struck and killed a man on a Hilton Head beach Monday afternoon as the pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing, authorities said.

The man was walking or jogging along Palmetto Dunes when the Experimental Lancair IV-P plane hit him, said Hilton Head Island fire and rescue spokeswoman Joheida (Joh-HI'-da) Fister.

The plane started leaking oil at about 13,000 feet and tried originally to make it to Hilton Head Airport, Fister said. The oil on the windshield blocked the pilot's vision and he told authorities the propeller came off the plane. When he tried to land on the beach near the Hilton Head Marriott Resort and Spa, the plane hit the beachgoer and came to rest a little farther down the beach, she said.

'I would have to say it's pretty unusual,' Fister said.

The names of the man killed, pilot and passenger on the plane were not released.

The plane left Orlando at 4:45 p.m. and was headed for Virginia, Fister said. The plane has a turbine engine and can fly up to 370 mph, according to the Lancair Web site.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating, Fister said. A call late Monday to an FAA spokeswoman was not immediately returned."

Rare New Year's Eve 'once in a blue moon' lunar event rings in 2010

 I'm not really an astronomical freak but I do pay attention to the heavens and the everyday miracles one only needs to gaze  upwards to see each night, however for this story I mostly just wanted to post this cool picture that accompanied it  :) 

Kind of looks like President Bush vacationing, but not in Hawaii at 4 g's a nite.   Nope, in the old heartland it looks to me. (He sure makes Obama look more like a clown each day. Check these pics out as opposed to the Obama ones you find.  Draw your own conclusions)

According to popular definition, a blue moon is the second full moon in a month. But don't expect it to be blue — the name has nothing to do with the color of our closest celestial neighbor.

A full moon occurred on Dec. 2. It will appear again on Thursday in time for the New Year's countdown.

'If you're in Times Square, you'll see the full moon right above you. It's going to be that brilliant,' said Jack Horkheimer, director emeritus of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium and host of a weekly astronomy TV show.

The New Year's Eve blue moon will be visible in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Africa. For partygoers in Australia and Asia, the full moon does not show up until New Year's Day, making January a blue moon month for them."
