Earlville cop faces pot charge

My Web Times: "An Earlville police officer was arrested at 10:34 p.m. Friday and taken to the La Salle County Jail Saturday after drug agents said he sold marijuana from his police car.

Sergio J. Fuentes, 41, 1540 W. Mooseheart St., Aurora, was arrested by the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team on felony charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and official misconduct, according to a Tri-DENTpress release.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation of Fuentes who, while on duty and driving a police car, delivered marijuana to a person working with Tri-DENT, the release stated. Fuentes was not arrested at the delivery location, but was arrested a short time later at the Earlville police station.

A Tri-DENT search of Fuentes' personal vehicle turned up more marijuana, the release stated. A search of his police car at the request of Earlville Police Chief Joe Plumlee resulted in the discovery of the controlled substance Clonzepan, an anti-anxiety medication, in Fuentes' personal duty bag.

Tri-DENT spokesman Zach Milus told The Times that a single pill of Clonzepan was found for which Fuentes did not have a prescription."
