Bae Arthur of Maude, Golden Girls and Broadway Fame Dies at 86

I first heard of Bea Arthur from her role as another liberal target of Archie Bunker as I was and still am a huge fan of All in the Family as any regular reader here can likely discern from my views.

Even as a young kid I thought many of his attitudes where not quite right but I knew the other characters were as wacky as he was in their nutty liberal views, and as I got older further understanding the humor I enjoyed the show even more and more, watching every morning on TV Land still today presently recording the entire run on one of my DVR's.

I enjoy those era's shows more than anything being offered today..

As Maude, the spin off into her own show launched by the AIF episode below gave me reason to dislike her domineering TV persona even more, which later carried into her next hit as she was also part of the show Golden Girls, which I never watched but was a big hit American sitcom nonetheless.

She obviously led a very long and prosperous life and I hope she can rest in peace having left behind quite a catalog of work that she and her surviving family members can be very proud of, and she of coarse will likely be missed by many.

Here's part one of three of the All in the Family debut of Aurthur as cousin Maude in All in The Family..like all the shows it's a hoot

Part two and here's Part Three
- Broadway Tickets: "Bea Arthur, the beloved star of sitcoms who got her start on the Broadway stage, died April 25, according to the Associated Press. She was 86 and had cancer, family spokesman Dan Watt said.

Arthur, who was born in New York City on May 13, 1922, found her first success on the stage as Lucy Brown in the legendary production of Threepenny Opera that opened at Theatre de Lys in 1954 briefly and again in 1955. She counted among her co-stars in this legendary production Lotte Lenya, Charlotte Rae and Jo Sullivan."continued

  1. I absolutely loved all in the family, like you most of the humor escaped me until I grew older. Love this blog by the way. Nice to see there are still conservative hold-outs in the big cities.
