This has to be the first time I've ever heard of someone being practically hunted down and criminally charged from something being done in a photograph aside from child pornography cases. I think they've gone way overboard on this Michael Phelps thing, I mean the guy isn't exactly public enemy number one, you know? This activity is going on in practically every liberal household in country on just about any given day and I see pictures and videos of people using and smoking pot all over the internet if you look for it, when are they gonna chase those people down?
You would think Richland county in South Carolina has enough problems to worry about without wasting resources on this thing, like the breaking down apartment doors with guns drawn for 5 grams of pot belonging the idiot student who puts the bong that was used in the infamous photo on Ebay for $100,000 along with the arrests of 7 other people arising from this little party back in November.
What the hell? I'm not a drug advocate but this is out of hand, bordering on Nazi Germany behavior ...
More on the overreaching Sheriff down there in South CarolinaCops Building Bong Case Against Phelps: Lawyer
| NBC Chicago: "Cops are looking to make a stronger criminal case against Michael Phelps by cracking down on the people who partied with the Olympic champion when he was photographed smoking a bong, a defense attorney charged.
Michael Phelps broke a 36-year-old record for most Olympic gold medals. Now he's apparently been caught smoking a bong.
The arrests of eight people linked to the now-infamous party where Phelps was photographed was the first step in compiling evidence against the record-breaking swimmer as cops seek to make the criminal case against him, a lawyer for one arrested person said Thursday.
Seven people were arrested for marijuana possession and one for distributing -- including the bong's owner, who tried to hawk the paraphernalia for $100,000 on eBay.
'All these people have been asked the same questions,' attorney Dick Harpootlian told The State newspaper. 'It's all about Michael Phelps.'
Harpootlian said he represents a 21-year-old student on leave from the University of South Carolina who was arrested during a raid over the weekend when cops busted into the student's home with guns drawn and found five or six grams of pot. The student was at the November party with Phelps." continued
Lawyers: Is sheriff too aggressive in Phelps case?
The Big 89, Where Chicago Comes To Talk: "COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Even if a South Carolina sheriff is successful in building a marijuana case against swimming superstar Michael Phelps, it might be hard to make the charges stick, defense attorneys say.
The case took a turn Thursday when lawyers for two people said their clients were among eight arrested last week and questioned at length about the November party near the University of South Carolina where Phelps was photographed smoking from a marijuana pipe. At the time, the men were renters at the house." continued
