I will say this, I have admiration for his standing up to this obvious power grab and consolidation of power to the executive branch with Obama signing executive orders left and right Byrd is absolutely correct and lets all hope the tide has now turned on Obama as his out of control welfare grab from the treasury has pushed even liberals to abandon ship.
Thank the Lord the people seem to awaken today, and now we can get some of these derelicts of their constitutional duty to now address the Obama eligibility issue while they're attacking his obvious overreaching power grab and even publicly calling it such..
Byrd: Obama in power grab -
John Bresnahan - POLITICO.com: "Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the longest serving Democratic senator, is criticizing President Obama’s appointment of White House “czars” to oversee federal policy, saying these executive positions amount to a power grab by the executive branch.
In a letter to Obama on Wednesday, Byrd complained about Obama’s decision to create White House offices on health reform, urban affairs policy, and energy and climate change. Byrd said such positions “can threaten the Constitutional system of checks and balances. At the worst, White House staff have taken direction and control of programmatic areas that are the statutory responsibility of Senate-confirmed officials.”
"While it's rare for Byrd to criticize a president in his own party, Byrd is a stern constitutional scholar who has always stood up for the legislative branch in its role in checking the power of the White House. Byrd no longer holds the powerful Appropriations chairmanship, so his criticism does not carry as much weight these days. Byrd repeatedly clashed with the Bush administration over executive power, and it appears that he's not limiting his criticism to Republican administrations.
Byrd also wants Obama to limit claims of executive privilege while also ensuring that thes White House czars don’t have authority over Cabinet officers confirmed by the Senate.
“As presidential assistants and advisers, these White House staffers are not accountable for their actions to the Congress, to cabinet officials, and to virtually anyone but the president,” Byrd wrote. “They rarely testify before congressional committees, and often shield the information and decision-making process behind the assertion of executive privilege. In too many instances, White House staff have been allowed to inhibit openness and transparency, and reduce accountability.”
The West Virginia Democrat on Wednesday asked Obama to “consider the following: that assertions of executive privilege will be made only by the president, or with the president’s specific approval; that senior White House personnel will be limited from exercising authority over any person, any program, and any funding within the statutory responsibility of a Senate-confirmed department or agency head; that the President will be responsible for resolving any disagreement between a Senate-confirmed agency or department head and White House staff; and that the lines of authority and responsibility in the Administration will be transparent and open to the American public.”
Obama faces a decision as early as next week on whether to support a claim of executive privilege made by former President Bush in refusing to allow Karl Rove, the former deputy White House chief of staff, to be deposed by the House Judiciary Committee on the White House’s role in the 2006 firing of nine U.S. attorneys.
Bush claimed “absolute immunity” for top advisors in resisting such subpoenas, by Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), chairman of the Judiciary Committee, filed a lawsuit over the issue. The case is on appeal, and the Obama administration is scheduled to file a motion next week laying out its stance on the issue.
I believe these new czars are there to protect Obama's new ventures into his executive privilege over the entire country. They will cover his rear.
ReplyDeleteThe new stimulus overseer had $84 billion in the bill to pay for his oversight. Just last year, new oversight czars were appointed to oversee Inspector Generals. Now what is this new position? It's all about protecting Obama from the public learning about what he wants to do.
I hope Byrd continues to speak out, but nothing will stop this administration. They know they are subversive and they know this is the only way they can achieve their goals.
Good news that Senator Byrd is still an American first and a Democrat second. May others join him, if there are any others in there with a friggin spine!
ReplyDeleteI found the entire speech given last night as laughable. For as educated as Obama is, he still does not know the first rule...
ReplyDeleteThe Golden Rule
He who has the gold...makes the rules.
He was talking down to big business and to the wealthy last night. He is going to put his chips with all those welfare activists. It won't be long before he himself runs out of money.
I do see a bright future...but then again, I side with Anarchy. What do you expect from a guy like me?
I wonder if the press will be as interested in Senator Byrd's rambling rants now that he is directing them at the messiah?
ReplyDeleteMaggie just the word Czar rankles me and has no business in our vernacular. Bush brought it in and I didn't like it then, I f'n hate it now....
ReplyDeleteAA it really is nice to see someone from that side of the aisle even mention the constitution much less defend it..Old guard dem they'll chuck under the bus to CommieVille commandeered by Obama himself
Farceur I woulda been laffing too if it was just another stump speech, this welfare radical is the darn president now, lord help us turn this ship around...
Foutsc, haven't heard a word about this or The MSNBC cutdowns but then again I don't visit the left loonesphere too often as so I guess we won't know just yet...
I agree about the word "czars" but these people are serious about it. They mean it, and they see their authority as czar-like.
ReplyDeleteI've had my problems with Byrd, and I see this as an effort not to give up his power, and rightly so...now we'll see if he sticks to it.
Hey Ray, Bill Sammon is on with Great right now talking about the Czar powers being created in the Executive branch. He also sees it as a very serious manner.
ReplyDeleteI think he thinks Obama will resist Congress on this.
Just finished watching it Maggie and it's good you can always count on the Wash Times and others like Sammon to stay on the Messiah's a**/
ReplyDeleteI missread your comment as he was just on Greta's show too and we don;t get Levin ubtil 10 pm here in Chicago on WLS from 10-1 am///I'll listen tonight and thanks for the heads up
ReplyDeleteByrd has gotten a little bit of his credibility back with this.
ReplyDeleteRay, sorry. It was with Greta. Typo!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both to qucik draw Maggie lol.,.. I usually watch the enitre fox lineup at night either the Primetime round or the backup one later. Good stuff in my book..
ReplyDeleteRight, your right and to my pleasure Byrd's letter is getting much attention. All we need is a few of these people to stand up to the Messiah and our predictions will be validated and he will rapidly lose support from all the moderates he lied his a** off too...Keep it up friends we're making headway...:>)
I have to believe there are enough reasonable people in DC (Democrat)to realize this guy is a problem. Look at all he accused Bush of? I have never witnessed anything like this at all, and he is very arrogant. I mean arrogant to the point that he does not seem concerned about going anywhere. He is quite settled in his new position.
ReplyDeleteThe speed of which he is moving is odd to me. Most politicians would have a stopping point that they realize might hinder a re election. Obama does not seem to have that concern. That concerns me a great deal. Ray, we are going to be exhausted watching this guy for the next 3 yrs 11 months. I just feel so powerless, how I wish the republicans could have at least won the house and senate.
"I just feel so powerless," Just keep visiting blogs like this one to get some facts and keep doing what your doing, anything is better than nothing and just visiting blogs is more than most do.
ReplyDeleteObama is a whiny wuss and no president has ever criticized their predecessor as this classless POS did last night. Even the libs are bailing on him after that presentation and blame game last night Sharon......
