You can't even teach many humans to act this precisely and bravely under life or death pressure, and the result is absolutely amazing story of the day if not the week or month. Way to go Fido.
Service Dog Dials 911 With Paws, Saves Owner in Phoenix:
MyFox Twin Cities |"PHOENIX, Ariz. -- 911 dispatchers have heard it all, but this one is the most unusual. When the operator answered a call, she heard a dog barking on the other end.
For Joe Stalnaker, his dog buddy is more than a best friend, he's a guardian angel.
Buddy saved Joe's life by grabbing the phone and calling 911 when Joe was having a seizure -- and he also barked and whimpered for the operator, who sent paramedics after tracing the call."
I knew that if he picked up the phone that he could call, but for him to respond to the operator the way he did with the barking -- it's a whole different level,' says Stalnaker.
Joe suffers from debilitating seizures after suffering injuries in the army ten years ago. Last year, Joe brought Buddy home and started training him as a service dog.
'He started using his paws as hands, and I thought if he can do that, surely he can grab a phone.' Joe trained Buddy to pick up the phone and grab it with his teeth when he falls on the ground. Buddy's teeth hit the speed dial for 911.
'He's just an amazing animal. I don't know of any other dog that can do the things he can do.'
This is the third time Buddy's called 911 when Joe was having a seizure."
