Few can effectively argue that the New England Patriots are not the team of this decade and even the New Millennium in the NFL, but as a devout Bears fan, this season has been a huge disappointment for me and their fans, so my interest in watching this Patriots team best the '85 Bears record breaking regular season and the '72 Dolphin's undefeated year in the seventies was hard to take.
Especially since the team was found to be cheating it's opponents earlier in the year by stealing the other teams signals (against the New York Jets in particular) I personally feel not enough sanction was placed upon the team for this transgression, seeing the act may have manipulated the actual outcome of who knows how many games prior or afterwards including the one in question against the Jets. Thus the record set here could be invalid due to that fact.
Therefore, this to me stains the achievement as I am a vociferous opponent of cheating in any form for any reason whatsoever as most should be.
However, it looks like in the official books this team will definitely go down as one of the NFL's finest ever assembled, and for that very reason alone the alleged cheating is quite sad, as this individual team didn't need to resort to tactics like those to succeed but did anyway. Maybe if they played like the Bears did this year I could see looking for any edge possible, but not this high caliber football team.
Now they must continue down the road and win the Super Bowl or this record will mean diddly.

New England Patriots at New York Giants - 2007 Week 17
NFL Game Center: Post Game - :
"It was over when ...
Laurence Maroney ran 5 yards for a touchdown to give the Patriots a 38-28 lead in the fourth quarter.
Game ball
Tom Brady was nearly flawless, despite playing without the right side of his offense line -- guard Stephen Neal and tackle Nick Kaczur. Brady completed 32 of 42 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns. Randy Moss also garners a game ball, hauling in two touchdown receptions. Moss' presence near the goal line opened up the running game for Maroney, who finished with a pair of touchdowns. Defensively, linebacker Junior Seau was all over the field for the Patriots, making key plays.
Key stat
Both teams protected the ball very well. Ellis Hobbs' interception of Eli Manning with 9:53 in the fourth quarter was the game's first turnover. That play also set up the Patriots' winning touchdown drive.
Noteworthy
It was a record-setting night for the Patriots. Brady set an NFL single-season record for touchdown passes (49) and Randy Moss broke the single-season mark for touchdown receptions held by Jerry Rice with his 23rd of the season when the two teamed up on a 65-yard score in the fourth quarter. The Patriots also set the NFL single-season record for points scored (589) on Brady's 4-yard touchdown pass to Moss in the second quarter, breaking the 1998 Minnesota Vikings' mark of 556.
