Brisbane, Sept 17: Australian drag racer Phil Lamattina survived from a crash on Saturday September 15) when he was racing at a speed of about 500 kilometres (310 miles) an hour.
Lamattina was competing in the Australian National Championships when his car went out of control, hit the barriers and spun in the air before bursting into flames.
Lamattina escaped from the accident without any major harm. He later recounted the incident to his teammates, while watching the replay of the accident on television monitors.
"I went like this, and I remember seeing the dash in the sky," told Lamattina to his friends.
"This was certainly one of the worst accidents Australian drag racing has ever seen," said Tony Thornton from the Australian Drag Racing Association.
The reason of the crash remains unknown. Lamattina said the car was built to crash and break apart and that his minor injuries were a good testament of the car's good engineering.
