Thieves Ransacked Home During Funeral:
MyFox Dallas | "Pat Vermillion says the loss of her mother was bad enough, but coming back from her funeral to find her mom's house ransacked is almost more than the family can take. 'We came to say goodbye,' said Tammie Warner after she returned from her grandmother's funeral. 'And when we came back, to see everything that she and granddaddy built turned upside down...' Tammie couldn't finish her sentence for crying.
The family is convinced that the burglars were scoping out the house, saw all the cars, and knew there was a funeral for 83-year old Ruth Withrow and then when everyone left for the service, they kicked in the backdoor."
Isn't that swell? Losers. But as I said earlier, this is an age old favorite of burglars and I remember when my grandparents passed away in '95 and '98 our family discussing this very scenario when placing the death notices in the papers here, limiting it to just our local Daily Herald and Trib and skipping the SunTimes.
The crooks stole jewelry, china and silverware. The family says anything that looked like it could be pawned is now gone.
"You come knock on the door and 9 out of 10 chances, we'd probably give it to you," said devastated grandson Robert Clark. "Don't wait until we're burying our grandmother."
Police are investigating, but may need the public's help to make an arrest.
They know that criminals like to brag, and the family is hoping they brag to someone with a conscience.
"What do you want someone to do if they know something?" FOX 4 asked the family.
"Have a heart," replied granddaughter Tammie Warner. "This could be your mother or your grandmother. Enough is enough."
If you know anything about this break-in, you're asked to call Dallas Police. continued
