EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – It was a struggle early, but a stingy defense and another huge play by Mark Bradley lifted the Bears to a hard-fought 10-0 win over the New York Jets Sunday at the Meadowlands.
Brian Urlacher and Nathan Vasher intercepted Chad Pennington passes in leading a defense that registered its first shutout since a 26-0 victory at Green Bay in the season opener.
Bradley gave the Bears a 10-0 lead with a 57-yard TD reception from Rex Grossman on the first play of the fourth quarter. The second-year receiver caught a short pass in the right flat at the 50, eluded cornerback Drew Coleman and dashed untouched into the end zone.
With the win, the Bears improved to 9-1 for the first time since 1990.
After a scoreless first half, Robbie Gould’s 20-yard field goal gave the Bears a 3-0 lead with 10:39 left in the third quarter.
The field goal came after the Jets tried to surprise the Bears with an onside kick to start the second half. Jets kicker Mike Nugent set the ball on the tee, turned around for an instant and then whirled around and booted it. But Chris Harris alertly recovered at the Jets’ 44-yard line.
Thomas Jones carried on all seven plays on the drive, gaining 42 yards. He picked up 19 yards on the first snap and 13 yards on third-and-two, giving the Bears a first down at the 4. But Jones was then held out of the end zone on three straight attempts.
The Jets responded by advancing to the Chicago 25, but Alex Brown pressured Pennington into an ill-advised pass that was intercepted by Vasher. read more
The Bears kept Laveranues Coles and the Jets off the scoreboard.

It's Kickoff Time
Well, the game just ended, and the Bears were kind of fortunate today to come away with yet another win, bringing them to 9-1 for the first time since 1990 and undefeated on the road. Another step closer to the prize.
