Bears & Patriots... SuperBowl XLI Preview ?

UDATE : 10pm cdt
Bears Lose To Patriots In Telling Fashion

In my earlier post I describe how we die hard folks into Chicago sports knew today's game would finally reveal for sure the Bears most telling weakness, and it did. This team will not win the Super Bowl nor even get there because one glaring weakness. That weakness has been solidly verified as Rex Grossman today. Surely he has shown his weak spots before today's game, but the most forgiving among us were hoping he would redeem himself with a solid game against a solid opponent, and he just hasn't met the challenge.

On many decent teams he would suffice as a good backup but on a good team he would possibly be a number three. Meanwhile, sitting idle on the bench the Bears posess a genuine number one quarterback, Brian Greise. And after today's performance in New England, there will be much clamoring for his taking over the number one slot in the Bears present pursuit of the ultimate prize. It has already started here in Chicago in what will surely be a long week for Rex Grossman.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Chicago SunTimes: The New England Patriots finally quit stopping themselves.

After New England turned the ball over three times inside the Chicago 20-yard line, tight end Benjamin Watson hung onto it when Tom Brady's 2-yard pass found him in the end zone, giving the Patriots a 17-13 win Sunday over the NFL leader in takeaways.

Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel put an abrupt end to the Bears' comeback hopes with his third interception with 1:46 to play.

Playing on their new artificial turf, the Patriots (8-3) persevered against the Bears (9-2), who had allowed the fewest points in the league, 120. But New England was the second stingiest at 131.

Thats what we here in Chicago are hoping for. This should be a good game, testing the Bears once and for all determining if their record up to this point is just a reflection of a weak schedule, or a damn good football team.

My bet is on the Bears today by 10 points, if Rex Grossman throws more completions to players is blue jerseys than white ones that is. Kickoff 3:15 Central
