The US media has been planning I'm sure for weeks this moment when they could compare the losses of our service men and women in the 2 wars taking place to the deaths of 9-11.
That Day has arrived, and they just cannot wait to publish those scant few photo's they have of dead soldiers coffins coming home as they have done today here. If they had them they would rather publish them all day every day we know, ss well as recite the comparison all day long as I have heard every hour on the hour leading up to this post.
I wont even publish them on this blog, and there isn't much that I won't put here, That is no way to honor any fallen soldier, most service members families will tell you so, with the exception of Cindy Sheehan that is, who would parade her son around like Bernie from "A Weekend at Bernies" if she could.
Why is it the media doesn't use this type of comparison when pointing to the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers on our behalf:
*US Deaths in 2 wars over three years in Afghanistan & Iraq total 125% of those Americans who died on D-Day in Normandy, in just one day.
These comparisons are meaningless and useless as they can be made all day long to look favorable for the war and against the war. The fact is that these brave men and women are now in harms war on our behalf and to publicize death tolls at certain periods are somehow worthy of more recognition than any other day or number is ridiculous.
Each end every loss is as sad and meaningful as the next one or previous one, and I for one do not need the media to tell me when to pay attention, as I look and read daily what is going on involving our fighting men and women, I don't wait for their bs comparisons like the one below to start paying attention like they think we all need.
U.S. deaths in war now exceed 9/11 losses - U.S. Security - MSNBC.com: "WASHINGTON - Now the death toll is 9/11 times two.
U.S. military deaths from Iraq and Afghanistan now surpass those of the most devastating terrorist attack in America’s history, the trigger for what came next.
The latest milestone for a country at war came Friday without commemoration. It came without the precision of knowing who was the 2,974th to die in conflict. The terrorist attacks killed 2,973 victims in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania."
An Associated Press count of the U.S. death toll in Iraq rose to 2,696. Combined with 278 U.S. deaths in and around Afghanistan, the 9/11 toll was reached, then topped, the same day. The Pentagon reported Friday the latest death from Iraq, an as-yet unidentified soldier killed a day earlier after his vehicle was hit by a roadside bombing in eastern Baghdad. Not for the first time, war that was started to answer death has resulted in at least as much death for the country that was first attacked, quite apart from the higher numbers of enemy and civilians killed, too.
Historians note that this grim accounting is not how the success or failure of warfare is measured, and that the reasons for conflict are broader than what served as the spark. read more
