Chicago Sun-Times: Parents of students at an Albany Park charter school are demanding the dismissal of a teacher who they say made slurs against Mexicans during a seventh-grade art class.
Students in the class said the teacher, angry because she believed students had gotten paint on her jacket, said that "all Mexicans are criminals" and that Mexicans "were only born to clean floors." more
While the above comments made by the teacher are a bit disparaging, are they any more offensive than seeing some of these very students given the wink-wink to skip school for anti-American rallies the past few weeks, from a mainly latino only charter school that derives all it's funds (see full story) mostly from donations, the federal government and the city of Chicago board of education?
Is it any more offensive than the phrase "white people suck at dancing and basketball"? Or is that phrase itself a reverse slur by implying that other types of people tend to be better at those activities than caucasians?
Will we soon be calling "Mexican" the "M-Word"? Does the fact that 11-12 million mostly Mexican illegals in this country who are breaking at least one US law every day that they are in this country mean anything to the parents upset about being referred to as criminals? The truth sometimes hurts.

Food for thought...
ReplyDeleteTo say the least.
You don't make sense. The school has alreay emphasized that she is on paid leave. Besides, you can't forget she said this in a classroom full of school-aged kids. Finally, terms for nationalities are not racial slurs.
