Airliner Overshoots Airport Runway....by 150 Miles

This has to be the most moronic thing done in the air by any flight crew in recent memory that the public has known about at least, and considering all the technology in the world that's available to modern airline pilots is great and all, but it doesn't land the plane when everyone's asleep at the joystick as happened here Thursday night.....

injecting fears of a 911 repeat as these people overshot their destination by a hundred and fifty miles remaining radio silent the entire time if you can believe that one in this again day and age!!!"

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Northwest Airlines flight from San Diego, California, overshot the Minneapolis, Minnesota, airport by about 150 miles Wednesday evening, and federal investigators are looking into whether the pilots had become distracted, as they claimed, or perhaps fell asleep. more

Pilots should have had warning of airport approach: "WASHINGTON (AP) - The two Northwest Airlines pilots should have had numerous warnings that their flight was nearing its destination in Minneapolis. Controllers were trying to reach the plane by radio."  more
